Help with P/J bass wiring
« on: June 15, 2008, 05:32:04 AM »
Hi guys, I am refitting a 70's P bass which has been modified with  Dimarzio pickups in a P/J configuration and Japanese mini pots including new wiring. I have had some custom pickups made (Brierleys) to replicate mid 60's P and Jazz pickups but I'm not sure of the wiring or values of pots, cap etc.  I would guess that the pots should be 250k? But I dont know if that should be the case for the tone pot as well? Or what value the cap should be. I'm after a classic mid 60's sound, specifically from the P pup but since there is a big hole in the body for the Jazz I might as well just follow through and get myself a bridge Jazz sound happening as well.

I'm thinking CTS 250k pots at the moment. And thats about as far as I've got.

All opinions and advice happily accepted.

Not sure about vintage specs but modern J controls are 250K for both volumes and tone, usually with an .05uf tone cap.
