Very nice!  The vibe of this appeals to me a lot more than the Bach basses.

Are you happy to post neck off via USPS Priority Mail International to Australia?

What pickup options are you contemplating?

Cheers

Thanks.  I want to build as close to the originals as I can for a reasonable price.

No problem sending neck off USPS.

If you want another 35 series pup set you'd get a $60 credit towards them.  Option pups would be sold at my cost.  If you want something that requires a lot of extra work (Dark Stars, Chisonics?) you'd pay for woodworking and extra installation time.  I'd say no more than $50 maximum.  Somewhere down the line I hope to have replica 60's Tbird pups available.  I'll be posting sound clips of the Duncans soon as well as an early 60s Tbird pup installed in my BaCH.

I am very interested.    Pickups i will have to think about.  I am still on the fence with the artecs .  one of these days when my wife stops giving me shit (to do  and...)  i will get around to installing my lull and comparing to the artecs......

any thought to scooping out the back of the lower horn the way Lull does on his t birds....

Glad you are intersted, I was hoping you would be.  Re pickups: whatever you want/can get is OK with me.  I did not like the Artec in my Bach, I didn't try it after I modified the bridge and changed strings, I'll give it another shot sometime.

The Duncans seem like they might be a good entry level pup.  They've had decent reviews, including here.  I have 2 sets, a new and a used coming next week as well as an EMG HZ passive.  Played one of those in a $4k Henman Bevilacqua bass and was impressed a few years ago but that was in a NAMM setting, who knows what they really sound like?  If you want no electronics that could also be done.

I have thought about Lull's 'scoop', it's on a few of my Ibanezes as well as my "Ergo."  IMO the scoop would do more on the front but I'm open to doing the back scoop as an option as well as neck bushings.

These things will be made one at a time so within reason anything could be done, including a graphite neck and Honduras mahogany body.

Good luck with the project but I'll stick with my original, albeit not a bolt-on... ;)

That's nice work on your own baby, btw... 8)

Cool! The first run will be Righties.  I'll have to see what the Lefty interest is to determine whether they will be a stock model or custom.  3 orders probably would be enough to make it a stock model.  Let's see how things go as the build progresses.  Thanks!

let me know when you are ready to go into production. I am trying to decide on black or salmon????  and then what to do with the pickups.  don't think i want to spend almost 700 on the lull's.   BUT i love the chrome/nickel  look

Body wood - the original were mahogany i assume.  i think that would be my choice.  Poplar doesn't seem as bright as the mahogany.  what do you think???

PM sent.  The Salmon certainly makes a statement but the black is going to be nice too with the maple and chrome/nickel to set it off.

I've started a new thread in Projects, Mods and Repairs, "Project Jaybird", documenting the prototype build.
