To me, these things are drop-dead gorgeous, but isn't $4k USD a bit of a stretch?

I still think about that day back in the late 1990's Austin Guitar Show at the long gone Palmer Auditorium where I could have picked up an Ampeg AMB-1 for around $650.....
-
this one has a different body and neck. that should knock the price in half imo.
-
That AEB-1 looks all quite original to me (having had 3 of them and 3 AMB's an AUB's) however the price is steep. 2k - 2.5k are what they have been going for in general.

supposedly ampeg did a lot of this with these basses just to move em out. As models would change they would somehow get it finished and shipped.
also i am not sure there is a difference in the 2 necks. it was more body designs and pickup from the AEB to AMB. some later bodies are laminates versus solid woods.
price seems high for an AEB. that price point would have to be prestine.

i'm just reading the ad copy.

I'd love a fretless model but well out of my range at the mo...
