Tom, did you say you needed to sell the Fenderbird?

And congratulations on the Explorer, I think you'll really like how it plays........A modern Thunderbird in pointy clothes  ;)

Not exactly. More like I "feel like" I should sell the F-bird. I don't know. I know I'm not going to use the Explorer a lot. Or will I? Either way... I've come to accept that I am a little bit of a "collector", and don't necessarily need to play something all the time to justify having it. They really are money in the bank if you buy wisely. Right???  :P

Nothing I've acquired will form part of my retirement fund... ;)

I'd guess when PC started making bass necks JAE got exactly what he wanted...

"U-D" it is then... or maybe a D-U-I... ;D

Ah well, can't argue with that, I just try to give all mine a good home. Should you decide to let her go keep me in mind, might have something to trade to sweeten it up.

Torn.... Been jonesing for an Explorer for some time now. I love the look of the Epi "korina" models. I also really like the pickup placement - very similar to a Ric. I would drop in a pair of black plastic TB+... But... It wouldn't really do anything that my Fenderbird doesn't do already, though it may end up being more comfortable.

If it has pickups in a different positions than on your Fenderbird then it does something your Fenderbird doesn't. ;)

You never need a reason to buy what you want if you have the funds. And what if you have a future gig that calls for an Explorer? You want to be ready, don't you?  :)

Got my Explorer yesterday. And I realized I haven't bought a brand new bass in over 20 years! (Ric 4001CS)

It's a beauty. Very cool instrument. I have not plugged it in yet. Action was pretty high. I tightened the truss rod a hair and lowered the bridge. My first 3 point. I don't see any issues, though I wonder about its placement. The E saddle is ALL the way back. I'll check intonation when I bring it home from the office. Hangs like any Gibson with the front strap pin behind the neck heel - a little forward tilt. Not crazy about that, and I can see why the Skynyrd guitarist wrapped his strap around the shark fin. Workmanship is good. The finish is cool. I usually hate when companies skimp and just do the burst on the front, but this matte black looks pretty bitchin with all the wood grain showing through. Honestly not sure if it's a lifetime keeper, but I think I'll hold on to it for a couple years at least. It's LIGHT! Nexk feels good. Not too chunky - better than my LP, but still kind of "round". 1-9/16'' at the nut. The case is RIDICULOUS! I feel like a dwarf carrying this thing. Even the handle is super-sized. I'll report on the sound eventually.

I'm jealous of that fin but my solemn vow stands. Gratuliere zur purchase! A bass separating the men from the boys, no less.

You can always sell that case to Keith Emerson.

For going from A to B I find this here useful, it fits:

"Gibson Basses, come on in............if you're man enough  :-*

It's pure Badass Tom, I really like the finish - Who'd a thought that, a 'burst on an Explorer.
