Looking at a Thunderbird after work today.
« on: February 26, 2009, 08:29:26 AM »
If I end up with it, are there any recommendations for a stand best suited for the T-bird? The last thing I want is for it to fall over and knock the headstock off.

Two important elements:
- the bottom must pivot to accommodate the angle of the body
- the neck support should have a retainer or "seat belt" to keep the bass from falling forward
If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter

I also have this stand with a strap for the neck and a kind of 'fork' at the bottom, which follows the shape of the body. Fits perfectly.

Normally I have it in a stand for three or five guitars, Those sideways things. Perfect for a Bird.

But the best places are around your neck or in a case.

Thanks all! The guy's son bought it new, played it about once and went back to his P and J basses. The serial indicates it was built in 2006, has new strings and comes with a leather-covered hard case. From the pics, it sure looks new. It's an Epi, by the way.

How much are the pickups on those things?

Will definitely post pics if I get it.

The Hercules stand is nice. http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GS412B.html

Those are great....I have one for my T-bird....

But all my basses hang on these when not in use, mounted into studs...http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GSP28WB.html

If it's an Epi, than it should have a maple neck, so I would not worry much. Gibsons used mahogany which were prone to break.

Epiphone Thunderbird Bass Features:
Color: Vintage Sunburst
Body: Alder
Neck: Maple
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Inlays: Dot
Scale: 34"
Width at nut: 1.73"
Electronics: 2 humbucking pickups, 2 volume controls and 1 tone control
Hardware: Black

Here's the new Thunderbird with the Fender amp. The sound out of this think is freakin' amazing! I'm happy. :)
Oh, and the comments people have about neck dive are all true, although the whole thing is not as heavy as I expected it to be.

Welcome to the Epiphone side of life, got the same bass (coffee-table finish RAWKS)!
Music was better when ugly people were allowed to make it.

Congratulations Denis~ Mighty purty!

I dig that rack you've got, Scott! Verry Coool
The amp hanger is pretty damn coool too, Basvarken.

The wall hangers are best for the studio & home to keep 'em outa the way where they're nice an' SAFE!!!
