Wasn't Gibson after some Danish hifi maker too a couple of years ago and the deal fell apart in the last minute? I don't see guitar making and being a home audio and video maker as worlds apart. People buy an expensive Stereo or TV for not entirely other reasons than they would buy a Custom Shop Les Paul.

It fits into the "sophisticated lifestyle" vision Henry J has of Gibson as a group.

Upcoming products:

- an amp head that also puts on a stage light show (with hdmi input for video projection)
- children's toy jr size Les Paul with bult in amp/speaker (like the cheesey plastic ones they had when some of us were kids, but a Gibson.... so made of wood and finished badly, but sounding better)
-  guitar karaoke rig (think guitar hero crossed with karaoke)
- a guitar cable that not only records your licks but will also burn you a CD afterwards (still only one button on the thing).

In all seriousness though, it does make sens to me from a purely business standpoint.

Gibson bought a majority stake in Onkyo two years ago and a majority stake in TEAC/Tascam about this time last year. So it's not just a one-time thing. They obviously have long-term plans. And they don't have to smuggle any exotic woods to make a profit in electronics.

Watch for the "T-Guitar".....a Gibson with a turntable nailed onto the front, instead of a bridge and strings.

.....then. Gibby Custom Shop version with a mic nailed to the headstock on a gooseneck.

Best part is Henry can avoid using real wood and make the body and neck out of plastic dyed dark.

Nah, Henry is more up to date than to use a turntable. The T in "T-Guitar" will stand for Tape and it will come with its own internal cassette recorder.
