Around here, nothing comes in without another going out, so out with a Music Man bass, in with this '71 EB-0. It had been on Reverb over 9 months, I offered way below asking price, and the seller accepted.
All original except for the strap buttons which appear to be Dunlops. 29K of glorious mud. The evertilt has no tilt at all. Great neck. Well balanced. I'm pleased!
Not enough natural light for good pics, these will have to do. Unlike my old EB-0L, this one is walnut, not just a faded cherry.

Nice .That should rattle the neighbours!

All hail the mighty EB-0!! Love that bass!
When did they stop making the slothead? I have what is reported to be a '64 and it's the solid headstock.

I think the slothead was only made in 70-71 - flyguitars.com sez they began production in late '69. My '72 EB-3 has the (large) solid 'stock. My '68 EB-0 has the smaller solid.
-
Slotheads only appeared in the '70 and '71 catalogs. Late '69 to early '72 is about right.
Yes, it can rattle just about anything. Back in the late '90s I turned up too loud while practicing (with my old slothead) and got a noise complaint. Cop asked me to turn down the music. He assumed I was having a party b/c he could see the awning over my front door vibrating up and down. :)

Contraulations Dave! Looks good.
-
I thought you were done with short scale? ???
You snubbed the Sub!
-
Nice score! ... also, the early 70s walnut finish totally compliments that room ;P
-
Congrats, Dave. That's in great shape!

For my taste, most short scales try to have the right combination of top and bottom, and they don't quite succeed. With the EB-0, there's no attempt at a balanced tone. It stands alone.
I still have the (USA) SUB Sterling. Didn't need two MMs.

True, the paneling and textured pile carpet scream '70s. :) But still in great shape, I'm not into redecorating for its own sake.

The aging is great. Just the right amount of lacquer checking, it wasn't left in direct sunlight or kept in a cold dry room.
Only oddity is that the bridge cover isn't quite centered, although it's not noticeable unless you're right up close and looking for it. It wasn't repositioned, the screw holes are original. I guess the CNC operator must have been hung over.
It came with D'addario rounds, which I replaced with a lightly used set of Labella flats. Sounds great, no complaints, but I may go for Labella black tapewounds, which I always used on my old EB-0L.

Well said. There is much to enjoy about a bass that is designed to be exactly what it is, and doesn't try to be a Swiss army knife.

Perish the thought; it's awesome.

That's a very nice bass, I like slotheads.

There's a rumble in the jungle... er... well... the Minesotan snow...
AVALANCHE...!

Very nice bass if you like their characteristic sound the way I do. Mine has also brought the cops to the door a few times, but they've always been friendly.

Back to the dark side :vader:
Congrats!

Very cool, congrats!

Nice bass Dave. It's the perfect EB-0 to accompany a classical guitar. Ole'! ;D
Any other mudbucker basses in the collection?

No other mudbuckers. When I win Powerball, I'll buy an EB-1 and a doublecut Junior EB-0. Might be difficult since I don't buy Powerball tickets, Your odds of winning are about the same whether or not you buy a ticket.

Nice bass Dave! That'll keep the icicles off the eaves!
It starts innocently with an EB-0. Then you start thinking about an EB-1. Next thing you know it's totally out of control......................

I'll have to retake the photo someday with the 2014 EB-5 String. My co-conspirator has been pushing me to acquire an EB-6, but that'll never happen unless I win the lotto..........
-
That's really nice, Dave. Good score!
-
Grog, if I ever buy a leg lamp like yours, you'll know things are out of control. ;) BTW, the bass came in a shipping box marked Fragile. Must be Italian....
-
It is most definitely a Major Award to yourself!

NO ONE expects....a Major Award!!

Perfection...

*Note to self....... Watch for EB-0 with broken headstock to make lamp out of.........
"No Dear, it's hardly noticeable from the street".

I always suspected that Batman was a bit of a leg man...

He sure liked tights too (most superheroes do). Except on Robin of course.

Nice bass, Dave!

Update: Although the evertilt didn't tilt, I just couldn't get the action low enough to suit me. The neck doesn't sit as high above the body as on my old slothead EB-0L. So I took the plunge and installed a Hipshot 2-point. Now everything is fine. Does the Hipshot change the tone? Hardly enough to notice. Maybe it would be more noticeable with a Model One or if it were a different Gibson. You can't tame a mudbucker.
I love this bass.
-
Really nice, I love the look of a slot head.
-
Glad you're digging it! Did it come with the original HSC? Those can be hard to come by.............

It came with the original (cheaper) Archcraft case, not the Faultless.

Surprised you got lower action with the Hipshot being that it's pretty beefy to begin with. I think my two pointer on my EB-1 is getting curved in a concave way toward the body. Can it be straightened out and reinforced or should I think about a replacement?
-
Waitaminnit, Uncle Dave gives up on his beloved two point - that wonderful, flawless bridge ... "if it had come with a string holder it never came with that is"???!!!
There a strange things a-happenin' everyday, but this is a cause for ...

It's a different situation than yours. The slotheads don't have an angled neck, so the neck has to be high enough off the body for the action to be low, and mine didn't quite get to where I like it (extra low). The Hipshot is beefy and its saddles are about the same height as the evertilt, but it sits directly on the top, while the evertilt sits above it even when screwed all the way down. That little bit made the difference in my case. Now it's 6/64" on the E and 5/64" on the G at the 17th fret.
As Rob pointed out on FB (when someone was looking for a solution to his tilting evertilt on a LP Triumph), the Hipshot needs to sit on a flat surface. Isn't your EB-1 arched where the bridge sits?

Just because Gibson forgot the tailpiece is not a reason to blame the bridge. :P :P :P
As Rob also pointed out, a small screw placed in the center (laterally) under the front of the bridge will prevent tilting. I never had the problem, but obviously some people do.
-
The Hipshot is on my EB-3. The EB-1 still has the two pointer which isn't tilting but curving inward between the posts. I believe it's been that way for a while so it's not getting worse but the posts aren't at even heights and the radius is probably nowhere near matching the fret board.
-
If it can bend, it ought to be able to be straightened out, maybe with gently applied heat. Has anyone tried it? I've never had the problem.
-
I'll get it looked at and maybe start a new thread after that. Don't need to derail this thread. Glad the hipshot is working out on the slot head.
