I like:

- just about anything Geezer played with Sabbath

- Dennis Dunaway, especially on "Gutter Cat vs. the Jets", but plenty of others also

- Jamerson (Bernadette has always been my fave)

- Flea on "Higher Ground"

- "Superstition" (all versions are cool but BBA stands out for me)

- Larry Graham on "If You Want Me to Stay" & "Let Me Entertain You"

- Ronnie Wood w/JBG on "Around the Plynth" & "All Shook Up"

Probably a million others but I'm gonna quit for now.

Looking forward to the Dennis Dunaway article!  He's one of my bass-playing heroes!

So, for someone not fluent in Gibson....

1) What is the new two-piece bridge called?

2) Does the saddle assembly mount to the original bridge posts?

The bridge I used is this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/CHROME-BASS-GUITAR-BRIDGE-FITS-SG-GIBSON-LES-PAUL-LP_W0QQitemZ330406897069QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item4cedc925ad

I guess it's just called a Tune-O-Matic bass bridge.  Not sure what the original application is.  Anyone?  Mounting it on the Embassy was not exactly straightforward.  The stud spacing is almost perfect, but the mounting studs supplied with the bridge are metric thread.  The original Epiphone inserts are of course SAE.  Also, the inserts supplied with the bridge have a MUCH smaller diameter than the originals.  What I ended up doing was pulling the original inserts out of the body.  Then I took another old set of Gibson inserts I had and retapped them to the metric thread.  Popped them in the body and mounted the new bridge.  Works fine.  Also, the string spacing of the Tune-O-Matic is about 3/16" wider overall than the old 3-point, which I think is a good thing.  I think it worked out pretty well, and I didn't spend $200 for a Thunderbird repro.  I'm happy.

Has anyone mounted the SuperTone 2-point bridge on a long-scale bass yet?  I found some pictures of one mounted on an EB-0 here:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=575912

The bridge studs on my EB-4L are very close to the edge of the body.  I'm not sure if that SuperTone design with the long offset in the rear will mount on the body without hanging over the edge.

I just went back and took a look at this seller's completed auctions and he actually seems to be doing very well.  Now I'm wondering to myself - who's crazier, the seller or the bidders?!?  A lot of his neck/body auctions closed at just a bit less than what the complete guitar would sell for.  :o ??? :puke:

Seems like an odd business model - pulling apart perfectly good instruments and parting them out??  Am I missing something here?

Those Hipshot bridges look ugly as sin (IMO ), but i'd bet they function very well.  Has anyone here used one to replace a Tilt-O-Matic?  Which one would fit?  If I remember correctly, the early two-point bar bridge has a slightly different stud spacing than the Tilt-O-Matic.
