A 72 with neck toaster / crushed pearl inlay / wavy grovers / checkerboard / all original is a pretty rare beast.  I think he's about 2.5k over

66Atlas

If he gets that much for it mine will be for sale right behind it!

1990 MG/BT S5 from Jeff Rath - not one of his 4-to-5 conversions. $3,200 BIN

Jeff couldn't resist taking a swipe at RIC in the last two sentences of the description. At least that's the way I take it. His problem is that he can't force the Hall family to do what he wants.

#1399
"Rickenbacker has made just one 5 string bass in the last 17 years" - that refers to a one-off bass that was made like his 4-2-5 basses, a four-string C64 carcass converted to a fiver with a 5th tuner crammed in between the original D and G tuners Rath-style.

Starting bid for that Mint/BT C64/5 was $3,699, and Jeff posted on TB on April 9, 2016, "that price is too steep for me ..." Now he's asking for $3,200 for a used standard S5.

Finally a Ric with all black hardware that I actually think looks good!
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?
Clocks.

About 2000-2002 I passed on a late 80s 4003 at Guitar Center that they had underpriced at $500 b/c I thought the black trim made the mapleglo look bad.

ilan

Black Trim was a very 80s look, not in a good way, but now from a 30 years perspective it starts to look retro, and retro has its appeal.

I had an '86 4003 in white with all black trim and it looked pretty good IMO. I'm a sucker for that "tuxedo" look.
For a Ric it was just okay and didn't excite me much so it moved on.

I'm not a fan of MapleGlo. I think black trim is a huge improvement, but as is often the case, I'm in the minority.

Dave W

I love mapleglo, and black trim looks good on some of the other finishes. Mapleglo and black together? Not for me, although I'll go back and buy the one I mentioned for $500 as soon as I perfect my time machine.

2050 El Dorado in poor condition but all original, listed as "70's 3001", $500 starting bid.

Could look much better with some Scratch-X and Zymol. Good deal if it stays near this price. The seller says "neck is twisted a little?"

When it's clean and shiny (Catalog picture) this is the only 2000/3000 Series bass that I find attractive.

Happy Face

I am dealing with a twisted neck right now. Solution = new fretboard = mucho bucks.

Dave W

Now listed as a 2050 and has a $250 bid.

Twisted a little could be as simple as not knowing how to adjust the dual truss rods, and could be a simple fix. Even if not, could be a good deal if the price stays low.

I'm always amazed that a seller won't put in a little effort to make it look presentable.

Pilgrim

It does look crusty, but should clean up.  I added it to my watch list even though I'm not Rick-aspirational.
