I'm sure you guys know the answer to this one: Sunn 412S C-002046. I'm thinking it's around '69/'70. Are those numbers enough information to date something like that?
The difference between the Ampeg 4x10 and this 4x12 is astounding!

This delivers a LOT more low bass than the 4x10 does. It seems to have a lot more depth as well and for some reason I want to say it sounds really rich. Kind of difficult for me to describe it exactly but I noticed it as soon as I plugged it into the Coliseum. Me likey!

Great looking cab! I love 412 cabinets for bass. An older Coliseum bass head would fit perfectly on that baby.
The best way to date it would be to remove a speaker and read the date code on back.

I grew up on 15" speaker cabs because I like the way they hit the back of the room. There are alot of great sounding cabs out there running 10" speakers but it tends to take a lot of them to really fill a room with deep , rich lows , and still they don't have the throw to hit the back of the room with as much authority. The older 12" speakers weren't bad , but still I would choose the 15s. These days it's a different story, there are a whole lot of new 12" speakers that give you deep , rich lows like a 15" but they keep it tighter and don't burp and fart like a 15" . And , the biggy for me is they can hit the back of the room like a 15".
I still have several older single and double 15" cabs but my new favorites are running 12"s ;D

A buddy formerly from Raleigh, now in NYC is planning on moving his family back here in the next couple of months and wants me to play bass in the band he wants to form, so something could happen here soon. :) He was here yesterday and saw the Sunn and said, "Wow, that cabinet is really big." In NYC he usually goes with smaller portable stuff which makes sense up there. He wants to do mostly covers and get a sax player into the mix.

I imagine my buddy probably plays smaller venues where smaller amps/combos are more convenient. Those SVTs do sound good though. Most people I know with one wish they had two of them too.
