His response, and what we know about the Explorer he built that you bought, tells me this probably isn't a genuine Gibson even if he built it. Unless the seller has some hard evidence, I wouldn't count on it.

Yes, that bass has a big question mark looming over it for 5.000 bucks asking price. It might as well be a boutique creation with a Gibson headstock.
