Looks like I have some time on my hands. I am going to be taking orders for non reverse Thunderbird bodies in the II and IV configuration and orders for non reverse pickguards. I will also be building JE Fenderbird bodies. I don't have pricing worked out yet, for starters bodies will be unfinished. Some pics of my work. Cool! I'm gonna think about you once!!
-
Best of luck with this, Scott. If I were you, I'd keep a fairly low profile. You wouldn't want to draw any attention from a certain manufacturer's legal eagles.

I have been thinking about that I will make pick guards and charge for pick guards only. If a bird turns up on one I have no idea how it got there. Seriously good advice Dave. I have given that alot of thought and I think this is going in the direction of building complete NRs using my bridges, Tony Carl's pup covers and Seymour Duncan custom pickups. I am thinking of a new bird design along the lines of the Phoenix and calling my basses that. I believe Uwe dubbed my shared of a Tbird that, Phoenix, I like the sound of it ! Yeah Phoenix Basses ;D
-
Can I be your first customer? I need a pickguard, and have been planning an NR project.
-
The thought of a really good Fenderbird..........Ummmmm yea! Keep us informed.
-
I'm in.

I am ordering pick guard material this week Chime in if you want one my first batch will be no more than six.
-
Congrats for being so enterprising & good luck with your Phoenix Basses!
...or you could call 'em God of Thunder Birds! hahaaa
I'll consider a lefty if I get a small role in a BIG movie. 8)

here is a novel idea, why don't you fix that 13k paperweight you own. really, how much could a buzz cost.
-
Thank you, nofi. You've humbled me.
May you own a decent bass someday.

Right now I would be able to start a Fenderbird build Full Nrs are a way off. If any one wants to consider a Fenderbird build weather JE or the NR body shape please contact me.

Congrats on the new venture!
Let the sawdust fly!
-
Yeah, looks like you're going to have some fun over the coming months. Good luck!
Is your first batch of scratchplates all subscribed? I would like one with no holes if possible - my current one just doesn't line up
Cheers

scotty,
in all seriousness i want a NR so bad i can taste it and you do impeccable work.
i'm just strapped with the two other projects, but i will say i am impressed so much i am considering doing project #4 a NR instead of an explorer body.
wish you all the luck in the world kicking your business off the ground.

PG material ordered today !
-
Hey Scott, great idea! I'll take a body for my Fenderbird project. I'll PM you with specs!
-
Scott, Let me know if you need any covers ahead of time and I'll have them ready. It takes a couple of weeks to make them if I'm out of stock. The basses look great, I'd be proud to be associated with the project.

Thanks so much guys, really the support of this board means much to me. I was talking to Bill (drbassman) today and I have compiled a list and contact info of us tbird nuts who have made aftermarket parts for Thunderbirds. Anyone who wants a copy can have it. Five years ago restoring a vintage Tbird was a tall order now with forums like the TLBO ( thanks to Dave and Uwe for a home!) bringing a bird back to life is possible. New builds are a bonus ! Entwistle inspired F-birds create a whole new market for our parts. The inter net can be a cool thing !

Could you do a Fenderbird NR guitarbody?
I always wanted to have a NR Firebird/Stratocaster hybrid with a vintage style vibrato and three single coil pickups in dakota red.
-
I'll put in an order for that ultimative Jim Lea commemorative SG bass you're gonna build one day!
