ORVILLE Thunderbird on EBay
« on: November 04, 2013, 05:13:34 PM »
Customer of mine sent me this link.  Seems high to me, plus different pictures have different pickups.  Comments?

They look like '76 covers, what'd suppuse is underneath.

Yeah, but in the full bass pics they are 2 screw pups.

Different cases are pictured as well. In the closeup shot of the pups, bridge and knobs, the case has blue lining, but in the larger pictures the case lining is white. I wonder if this is a half-assed attempt at bait-and-switch.

The white lining makes the case look like a recent Gibson case. The blue fuzz could be from something else but not enough of it in the picture to be able to tell for sure. The price is almost double what the last couple Orville's out of Japan were selling for. The pickups are a bit of a mystery.

I wrote the seller this:
"In the large photographs the bass is pictured with 2 screw pickups and the case has white lining.
In the closeup photograph showing the knobs, bridge covers and pickups, the pickups have 3 screw pickups. Also, the case has blue lining.
These are clearly two different basses. Which bass is the auction actually for?"

And received this in reply: "Geeez, My Bad... That was to show the bass pickup cover.. thx for letting me know...Lou"

I hate it when a seller resorts to false information to sell an item. "This was Gibsons T bird just NOT made in the USA...The plant moved overseas. They used all the same tooling, parts and wood." Bullshit! It may be that he's misinformed rather than trying to mislead anyone, but it's still false.

At least he's answering questions. And he does have 100% positive feedback.

What is that thing below the bridge on the body wing?  You can see it in the first and last pictures.  Looks like a bottle opener?!?

Oh so that's what it is, that's totally douchey.  I would prefer a bottle opener.   ;D
