From one of my favorite web comics, this rings all too true.

My benchmark for getting old is the release of the first Black Sabbath album.  That was 43 years ago.

Yes, all too true. For me it's the Ramones first album. Almost 36 years ago. Yikes.

Not quite as far back as the Edison cylinder, but I do remember hearing Hank Williams songs on the radio while he was still alive.

Great comic.

Classic Rock format radio (at least here in NYC, dunno what it's like elsewhere) is a guaranteed make-you-feel-old device.  The day they start playing something you think is "recent" is the day you realize you're old.

Typical example: Yesterday I heard Billy Joel's "Captain Jack" (1973) followed immediately by Nirvana's "Come As You Are" (1992). "Why are they playing this song? I remember when it came out when I was in college! That can't have been very long ago, only ... uhhh.  TWENTY YEARS AGO."

Ouch.

Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy

I had to tear apart one of my old wind up phonographs & lubricate it. My wife wanted me to play Bing Crosby's White Christmas on Christmas eve. That is one of the few things that makes me feel young. The phonograph is just short of being 100 years old.

I noticed I was getting old when politicians started being younger than me! And when my kids made fun of me when I couldn't read the small type anymore without reading glasses!!!

I remember being in bed with a transistor radio listening to WSM when I was a little kid.  I don't remember when Hank was alive.

I grew up going to sleep at night listening to WLS in Chicago with Dick Biondi.  I couldn't sleep, so my parents got me a radio.  That's the reason why Lou Christie is one of my all-time favorite singers.  I was introduced to rock and roll at the age of 6.  I discovered it all by myself.   Funny how I went from Lou Christie and The Beach Boys to Black Sabbath, Cream and Johnny Winter in a mere 7 years.

Went to a school reunion recently. A room full of ..."OLD" people no less. I had a hard time seeing myself as one of them.

You are old when you're wife "gives" you a nose hair trimmer ???  WTF!  When did my nose hair start growing out of my nostrils!  Plus, it really smarts when your 20 year old daughter says "Ewwww, you have GREY nose hairs hanging out of your nose!"   ;D
