This is what Spin is saying about the 50 so-called best rock bands at the moment. I'm familiar with maybe 8 of them. When it comes to modern rock, it looks like I'm no longer au courant. I used to be. But I think used to be doesn't count. I suspect, though, that if this list were fully investigated the conclusion would be that this is way more pop than rock. Anyway, that's my guess.

I've heard of two. I've actually heard music by one of the two.

I suspect we're talking about the same two. Neither would be on my list of favorites.

I looked back over it. There are 7 bands that I've heard of, not 8. Out of those 7 bands, I've never even heard any songs by two of them. But I have heard their names mentioned from time to time--The 1975 and Vampire Weekend. Out of the five that I have heard, none really much captured my attention. I suppose Paramore might be band to listen to if you're young enough. That's in my niece's demographic. Her demographic and mine usually don't mix.

Thankfully no Led Zeppelin!

The use of the "word" obvs in the first sentence is enough to tell me what I already knew - I'm too old for this list.
Having said that, I scored a 10 out of 50. 6 of which I've actually heard, and 2 that I've seen live (Pearl Jam and Body Count - both because there were other bands on the bill that I wanted to see.)
I actually like what I've heard from Wolf Alice.

Pearl Jam, Body Count, Haim, Paramore and Vampire Weekend I know. The last three I wouldn't call rock, they are quirky pop, but then it's SPIN magazine, what do they know?
Wolf Alice caught my attention, might buy a CD.
I was at least expecting The Struts!

With their "Oasis meets Queen", slightly outrageous image, it's the kind of band you would expect to find grace even with a SPIN journalist.
And they have a sense of humor ...

Wolf Alice has been mentioned a few times in some music articles I've seen over the years. They got good reviews from the critics. I tried listening a little to them on You Tube quite some time ago. I don't remember anything much getting my attention, but also don't remember anything negative. I think it may have been a little too pop for me, though. They have described their music as "rocky pop." I can listen to pop, but most of the time I don't. I like Wolf Alice's name.

I'm sorely disappointed that A Giant Dog wasn't included. Good hard rock, lingerie, and a couple of attractions.

Yes, indeed, that music just bops along fine. Thanks for keeping us abreast of the movement.

Back to nose wrinkling, are we?

Indeed, I was just about to say, but I don't want to rub it in with the old badger, I never do. Faster than you can say "Gwyneth", he's miffed again.

What are you on about, now?
