Gibson Basses / Do Lindy Fralin Thunderbird Pickups Exist?
« on: April 11, 2010, 11:10:07 AM »
Does Lindy Fralin make some Thunderbird pickups? I could have sworn that I had seen them before somewhere on the net but now I can't seem to find any info about them anywhere. Am I just imagining this or did they make them at some time because they don't have anything on their site about them now? If they do or did make them in the past, does anyone here have them and what are your thoughts about them? Are they replacements for vintage Thunderbirds or are they the size of the newer Thunderbirds?

I actually sent a message to greatdealz too but haven't heard back either. I want those covers and for that price, all the other options are so expensive.

Chromium, yes I saw your thread regarding your refinished bird and that is EXACTLY what I would like to do with mine. Before I saw yours I was contemplating doing the same thing to mine when I received it and then I saw yours and how great yours came out and now I am obsessed with it. ha..ha.. I think I might keep mine with one pickup though, I haven't decided yet. I unfortunately have no money right now, I really shouldn't have even purchased the bass but I couldn't resist so I'm not sure when I will be able to refinish mine and do all the mods that I am hoping to do. I have already refinished a few things and have been a long time fan of the ReRanch board and products but metallic's kind of scare me to be honest. Where did you get that pickguard made and do you mind telling me how much you paid for it? It's perfect, I definitely prefer one that is mint opposed to white.

The covers that Tony Carl makes look great but they are indeed pricey. If I'm going to spend that much I might as well go all out and get the whole pickup, one of his or a Lull. I think I will wait and see if Greatdealz puts another cover up on Ebay at some point. I sent him a message last night but I haven't heard back yet so we'll see. If the altec sounds good and I can get an old cover for around $30.00 I would be very happy with that for now.

Hey, everyone I ordered my first Bachbird and I want to start planing my mods out. Where can I find a chrome cover for the altec pickup? I know that some guy on Ebay occasionally sells them (I hope he sells more) but any other options that you guys know about? At some point I may switch out the pickup but for now I just want to cover the altec one because I am broke but I would also like to give the altec a chance, I might like it.

That looks good, did it come with the chrome cover? How much was it?

I just ordered my first Bachbird from Rob today. I sent him the payment this morning so hopefully I will get it in a few weeks. I'm so excited, I have wanted a NR Bird forever and I was beginning to think I would never own one and then I accidently stumbled on this thread and read about the Bachbird and how long this project had been going on. Awesome!!! A week ago if you told me that I would find a mysterious, somewhat hidden thread that would enable me to buy a brand new NR Bird for around $400 I would have laughed in your face. I definitely plan on doing some mods to mine like most of you guys have so I am sure I will have a million questions for you guys in the next few weeks. I will start with one for now. Where I can I find a chrome cover for the pickup?

Cool, yeah I'm pretty sure I am going through Rob. Just to clarify, from the reading the message boards I in no way am doubting the quality of Rob's service or help. I know he has been a great help to many, many people on this board. I was more curious about Bach's customer service and their prices and stuff. I can't wait to order this bass and get it in my hands. I have wanted a Non-Reverse Thunderbird forever and I never thought I would be able to get one. I have considered getting the Epiphone reissue but I can never go through with it because there are too many things wrong with it, I don't like the pick-up configuration, the reverse headstock or the color. Let's face it, other than the body shape, it is nothing like a real NR Thunderbird.

I have a few questions for you guys. I have e-mailed Rob about ordering a Bachbird after I initially e-mailed Bach directly and didn't hear back from Bach. Well now I have heard back from Roman and I have a few questions for you all. Have any of you ordered directly from Bach? If so, how was your experience? I'm wondering what the price difference is? Obviously Rob charges something for his time and effort, which is absolutely understandable. I know he provides a great service for everyone and it is only fair/right for him to be compensated for it, let alone the fact that none of us would be here right now talking about this bass if it wasn't for him. But is the main reason that people go through Rob the language problem or can he actually get the basses to the customer faster? Have there been problems ordering direct? I know in the beginning it was difficult getting a response from them but now that they have basses in stock and have an order page on their website has it gotten easier? The reason I am asking is because I have a friend here that speaks fluent Czech so calling them wouldn't be a problem and if ordering direct is substantially cheaper than I might go that route but if it's only a little bit of a price break for a huge hassle and Rob has a system that works maybe I shouldn't even bother ordering directly. I'm just so poor right now otherwise I wouldn't even think twice. I shouldn't be buying this bass at all but I have wanted one of these for a very long time and I cannot pass up this opportunity.. Ha..ha.

I'm sure Rob will read this too so I hope this doesn't offend him, me asking these questions because at the end of the day I will probably end up ordering it through him anyway.

Thanks for the quick responses. How do I get a hold of Rob? Will ordering from him be the same price?

Hi, this is my first post and I have a few questions for everyone. First off I am beyond thrilled to have stumbled on this thread and the Bachbird. I have been wanting a non-reverse Thunderbird for a long time and was beginning to give up hope of ever owning one. I have almost settled for the Epiphone reissue version a few times but I could never do it because I didn't like the pick-up configuration and the reverse headstock. Fano guitars just released a version too which is also very nice but it costs thousands of dollars and yet still isn't exactly what I was looking for, the headstock didn't really do it for me on this one either. Finding the Bachbird was an amazing bit of luck.

OK so here are my questions:

1.Does the bass come with a case? In the description it says "Case for this model in our offer" that seems to imply that the case comes with the offer but I'm not sure if that's correct. Or do they mean that they also offer a case for an additional fee? I'm not sure what they mean and I have emailed them but I haven't heard back from them. I want to order the bass but I'm not sure if I should also order a case separately.

2. Since I haven't heard back from them is that something to worry about? Is Bach music easy or difficult to deal with? I'm a little worried about ordering something from an international company without knowing much about their history. Will they take forever to ship it out? Is dealing with them a nightmare or is it really as easy as it seems?

Thank you to anyone that responds to this.
