It's highly probable somebody is using the DB name in relation to musical instruments

Well, doh.

Turns out there are hundred of trademarks for businesses us DB in one form or another.  The main difference is the logo itself.  Since I won't be selling tons of basses, I may not worry about it until someone says my 2 letters look like the ones on their basses.  We'll see.

It's not just the logo design, it's also the words (or letters, in this case). If another company using the db name has a trademark that's described as covering musical instruments, then you wouldn't stand a chance if you came to their attention. It might be worth your while to research it.

I am researching and from what I've seen, there are hundreds of folks with the "db" business of the same type whose only difference is the actual logo design.  So, there is room if there is enough differentiation.  I did discover there is a possibility of trad marking Dr Bass and Dr Bassman, so I'm considering that as well.

The initials DB with a bass clef symbol inserted between them would be distinctive and unique.....

That's also on my radar screen since I had a decal designed with that concept in mind.

I vaguely remember a story of an ex-pat living on the west-coast with that as a registration number on a car - no one knew why he smiled so much when driving it round... ;)

W*NK*R has little meaning too, so I've heard...

Ha, good one!   I could have used that on my Porsche plate.  Didn't Wanker invent the rotary engine.  :D
