Title: EB-3 arriving tomorrow!
Post by: Hornisse on November 04, 2009, 06:59:32 PM
I picked this one up on Ebay recently.  I was taken in by the markers.  Uwe says some left the factory like this.  Pickguard is not original but I think everything else looks right.  Not original case either.  Said it was a '67 but I'm thinking '68 due to the evertilt bridge.  Just thought I'd show it off since the seller has a better camera than I do!

Nice color, and I agree the inlays are very nice.  Looks to be in good shape for a 40-year-old bass.

wow! very nice one.

Looks exactly like the cherry '68 EB3 I had. Besides the walnut finish and the blockinlays of course. I didn't know they made the EB3 with blockinlays at that time.
Curious what you think of the sound. My bass was too muddy and bassy on the neck pickup but had a really great bridge pickup sound. Better then any other EB3 or SG reissue I have played on.

Great score! Nice! I love block inlays on some basses, but I also like the simplicity of dots. But this one's a great looker!

Really beautiful, but isn't that faded cherry as opposed to walnut? What it looks like under the bridge will probably tell. I have a formerly cherry EB-4 that has turned completeley walnut except for the back of the maple neck. And that walnut has much more depth and luster than any of my other real walnut basses. It reminds me of the one in this pic.

That is a nice bass ! The only one I ever saw with those type of inlays was the white one that pops up on ebay from time to time, and that one was supossed to be factory white with the inlays. I have never seen one in person. Regardless NICE bass !

You are the Ebay buy-it-now master!  What an awesome score in every respect...

Love the blocks, and that color is pretty cool.  If this is faded cherry, maybe I need to set mine out in the sun for a few weeks  ;D

Nice basses, still not sure about walnut finishes.

I'm pretty sure that's UV-faded cherry, not walnut.

nice score!  I haven't seen a walnut finish that transparent, it has to be faded cherry.  looks very nice either way, though.

 Nice!  You'll have to mate it up with a '68 SG Standard.  :o  :o

Thanks everyone!  It is the faded cherry finish.  I can't read any of the pot codes but looks to be all original inside the cavity.   The serial number is in the 880000 range so that puts it at '67.  It is set up with flats and the action is great.  Has some fret wear but still a lot of life left in them.  I have to find a pickguard for the bass as the one on it really doesn't fit well.  Plus there are holes for the tugbar.  I had to put the Rick Turner Bass on consignment because I had to have this bass.  One comes in, the other goes out.  Did the BIN on Ebay and got it for $1,049 delivered!  It has the cool checking in the finish too.  Nice fat neck which I love on these.  I've been listening to Wheels Of Fire recently.  Had to get in the mood.

"It is the faded cherry finish."

How I knew that just from the pic! Where's the applause?!!!   :rimshot:

Real walnut just doesn't look that nice.
