Gibson Basses / Gibson Ripper Pickguard
« on: September 01, 2013, 10:50:01 AM »
I was looking at some on Ebay and came across this one.  It states in the auction that it is NOS but I can't understand the holes around the pickup openings.  They are unlike any I've seen on The Ripper.  The originals had no pickup mounting holes while the later ones had a sort of triangular arrangement.  Any theories?

Other Bass Brands / Kubicki Ex-Factor
« on: June 27, 2013, 05:25:09 PM »
I bought one of these today.  I've had a Key Factor 5 before but have always wanted an Ex-Factor.  This one has been played but I love the look and sound.  Here is a quick pic from the place I bought it from.

Bill's Shop: Projects, Mods & Repairs / Extracting broken wood screws
« on: June 23, 2013, 05:34:55 PM »
Anyone have suggestions?  2 out of the 3 bridge screws for a guitar I picked up recently are broken off at the head.  They are the screws that attach the bridge plate to the guitar.  They seem to be brass screws if that makes a difference.  I've heard that extractors don't work well.  Just looking to the experts for some advice.  Thanks!

Gibson Basses / RD Artist Bass strap buttons
« on: March 10, 2013, 09:00:03 PM »
What are the proper buttons for the RD Artist Bass?  I want to replace the schaller strap lock buttons on mine with the stock items.  Would the current Gibson strap buttons be correct for the bass or should I look for some from 1978?  Thanks for any help!

Gibson Basses / Gibson Les Paul Bass Question (1992 with flower pot inlay)
« on: February 17, 2013, 09:31:09 PM »
I just bought a late 1992 three knobber and was wondering if they came stock with a blank truss rod cover?  I have seen some with the "Les Paul" cover (ala SG/Les Paul) but mine appears stock.  It is nice having a Gibson back in the stable!

Other Bass Brands / A Jackson and a Hayman
« on: January 11, 2013, 05:29:54 PM »
My daughter (now 29) sent me this photo from around 1998.  I remember I bought the Hayman 40-40 from Bob before he became the Swami.  I found it in an ad in Vintage Guitar.  The Jackson was an old one.  I think someone on the Jackson Forum owns it.  Bought it at a Pawn Shop in Austin and it was originally sold at Lightning Music and Sound in Austin.  The amp was a Peavey Mark VIII with a 410 cabinet that I used with the Motorola Corporate Band.  I loved that setup!

Gibson Basses / Blast from the past: Gibson G-3 bass with Gibson G-50B amp
« on: November 14, 2012, 07:01:41 PM »
A buddy of mine recently found some photo's of my first band.  This was a show we did January 14, 1978. (I was 16!  :o )  We opened the show and there were 2 other bands.  This was at the old Howard AFB in the former Canal Zone, Panama inside of a hangar.  Love the flatbed stage.  Wish I still had that old G-3.  Was my first "good" bass.

There is a bass I'm interested in that area and I was wondering if you may be able to check it out for me?  I would cover all costs for purchase and shipping as well as gas!  Thanks!
