Title: Inside a Kalamazoo KG-2
Post by: Dave W on January 17, 2012, 05:36:18 PM
From Stew-Mac's shop (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150543427894925.394779.90373849924&type=1)

You can see that the body is fiberboard, probably a predecessor of modern MDF. Apparently none of the commenters have noticed that yet.

The Kalamazoo bass that Uwe has in his collection is also made of fiberboard/ MDF.
That is the main reason why the bridge had started to come loose and tilt. The MDF is just too soft to hold it in place.
Uwe replaced the original bridge for a Hipshot Supertone

All of the Kalamazoo bodies are fiberboard AFAIK, I had never seen the insides before.

I bought a six-stringer once just for parts.  The Vibrola & wrap-bridge alone were easily worth twice what I paid.  Same junk as this one - press-board body and crappy neck.

Yep, if you can get one cheap enough (guitar or bass) the parts will be worth it.
