While I find it fantastic from a sonic standpoint, I think they really missed the mark with the packaging & such. A big book really full of nothing. Mk III pictures, quotes from people who really don't matter, a way dated Pete Frame family tree, etc...
Mine has a full size sticker on the back of the box, rumored to cover up a typo ("Somoke On The Water". Really?! Somoke?!). I am also missing the download card. I feel that if they would have involved Simon Robinson & the official Deep Purple fan club crew this could have been a home run. But in this day of budget minded labels I guess Rhino wanted to keep the overhead low.

But as stated before, it sounds fantastic which is really what matters I suppose. I've purchased this record four times now, I know I've paid for Ritchie's garden shed at this point.

Black night is a long way from home.....

Rickenbacker Basses / Greetings & Salutations
« on: January 08, 2014, 11:06:40 AM »
Hello, I recently introduced myself to The Last Bass Outpost via the Gibson Bass section....
They're crazy over there. Lots of talk about cross dressing, shaving squirrels, then like clockwork this German dude shows up and everybody starts bowing and asking forgiveness. It's weird.
Wait, they can't read this stuff from over there can they?!

I kid, I kid. I got a very warm reception over there, so I thought I'd pop in on this side and say hi. I'm a long time lurker here, but am a contributing member on the RRF and TalkBass Forums. Hopefully some of you will recognize me. ;)

My Rickenbacker count is equal to my Gibson tally, so here we go.

Below you'll find my 1974 Fireglo 4001, my 1978 Walnut 3001, and my 2003 Montezuma Brown 4003. Looking forward to being part of the clanky goodness here.

Gibson Basses / A lurker steps forward...
« on: January 03, 2014, 08:44:19 AM »
Hello all,
I've been a quiet member/lurker for some time now. Though I've been around since the Dudepit days (daze?!) when my participation was still limited at best. I'm a member of some of the other big forums out there....without naming names, I'm part of one of the most cult-ish fan boy forums, as well as the most pedestrian lowest common denominator one.  ;)
Although I have reached out offline to a few of the reigning kings of The Last Bass Outpost for some questions/advice in the past, I just never really felt that I had a lot to offer to these proceedings. What, with the only Gibby I owned being my roadworn 2001 T-bird.

But the past year has been pretty good to me on the Gibson acquisition tip. Last February I finally received my Cherry Midtown that was on order for months, and Santa just brought me a 2014 SG Special in Chocolate Satin. So now that my Gibson tally finally equals my Rickenbacker count (and outnumbers my Fenders) I figured it was high time for me to become a productive member of The Last Bass Outpost society.

Please see my membership credentials below...
Happy New Year everybody.
