The Bass Zone / Strings for Short scale
« on: August 12, 2009, 10:20:26 AM »
Considering changing the string on my Danos...right now they have real sweaty Ernie Ball roundwounds on them...

Have used Chromes (too high tension to slap--too artificial sounding in the midrange) and TI Jazz flats (loved everything about them except I kept breaking strings because they are 32 inch scale and had too much stuff wrapped around the tiny little posts) Dadarrio nickel rounds (liked slinkies better)

Am open to rounds or flats--they need to be lower in tension and relatively flexible to do what I do.  They attraction to flats is that it would be nice to put 'em on and leave them for a couple of years.

I'm throwing it out to forum just because experimentation is so expensive...

Was considering GHS Precision flats or ?  Maybe the real light Labellas? or Roto Trubass?

If I get slinkies again--it'll take weeks to get 'em to sound good.

Any ideas??

Bass Amps & Effects / pedal board
« on: June 22, 2009, 06:02:05 AM »
Alright, I finally bought a pedalboard for all of the stompboxes (2 eq's, buffer preamp for electric upright, and envelope filter)

Worked great Friday night...Saturday night I kept losing power from the power source....it was outdoors, hot and 100% humidity...when I touched the power plug into the stompbox, then the sound would snap on again

Is there a way to make these more reliable, especially the DC plug that goes into the stompbox? (after Saturday, I will put new 9 volts in everything for backup)

Rickenbacker Basses / truss rod covers
« on: October 22, 2008, 08:10:18 AM »
Is there any source for these--Not interested in a RIC logo--my son just bought some sort of Japanese copy, and just needs a blank cover to close up the cavity in the headstock. It's a single truss rod, bolt on neck, so there is no issue regarding confusing it with the real thing---BTW, it plays and sounds surprisingly good.

The Bass Zone / fender flatwounds-shortscale
« on: September 01, 2008, 02:30:55 PM »
Anybody ever cut a set of Fender long scale flatwounds to fit a shortscale bass? They are only made in longscale--I just wondered if the outer wrapping is stable as on roundwounds, or if it would unravel???

2.  I see they have a 200 Watt model with 2 eight" speakers---would eights even be enough to gig with??????bet it would sound tight...
