Man I could listen to Paul Chambers' work on "Kind of blue" all day and never get bored because I always hear something new.

Very refreshing. Thank you. You just don't hear jazz like that anymore (at least myself)

I can't say enough good things about Paul Chambers, without a doubt one of THE founding fathers of bassplaying as we know it today.

i would submit jimmy blanton as one of the originators of modern double bass in jazz. but who knows, really. you should check out 'this one's for blanton'. a duet disc with just duke ellington and ray brown. you will not even miss the drums the bass is so good.

Kind of Blue is the best selling jazz album in history, I think more than 2 million have been sold over the years which is phenomenal for a jazz album. Jimmy Blanton was the first upright bass virtuoso, he was only around for a few years but changed bass playing forever.
