one of my favs still to this day.  very creative within a very limited structure.  some of his parts are so subtle but amazing at the same time.  Like JPJ didn't hear it all  in early 70's as my stereo was so shitty.  better equipment and remastering and i hear new parts everytime i listen ....

i would not call the allman brothers music a "very limited structure" at all. improvisation was rampant given the 20 to 25 minute songs they regularly played. just listen to live at the fillmore again or any live material for that matter. the band could take a tune anywhere they wanted and remain tight.

by limited structure i was referring to most of the songs being 1, 4, 5 structure in a only few keys.  He kept it different and fresh and creative.  IMHO he is way under appreciated by many musicians.

i gotcha'. one thing i noticed about berry is given the choice of notes,he almost always goes for the lowest sound. even if it means an open string. i 'borrowed' a lot from him and i'am very grateful for it.

Played the first three LPs to absolute death... now with just about everything on the ipod I don't have trouble no more... ;)
