Title: The best sound according to your taste
Post by: Blazer on May 27, 2008, 02:34:36 PM
Let's talk about something that every bassplayer is constantly chasing: the ideal sound and post  examples of people who are getting really close to having the ideal sound.

Les Claypool "The Awakening"
I love the growl he's getting from his medium scale Thompson bass, it has that typical EMG clarity but with a ragged edge. I love his tone.

The Comodores "Brick house"
LOVE that filthy P-bass sound on this one, the P-bass might not be the most glamerous bass but it sure gets the job done if you need low end without much hassle.

Stray Cats "Double talking baby"
Lee Rocker is a badass rockabilly slapper but when he plays fingerstyle he gets such a beautiful blooming sound going from his bass.

That is a great sound on pictures of home. I used to play in a Purple tribute band years ago and most of the stuff was reasonably straightforward to reproduce tonewise even though I'm a fingers player. Pics of Home was one that I was never happy with, so yeah ilan I agree, good call.

One of the sounds that I love but can never replicate is Allen Woodys tone in "Thorazine Shuffle" gotta have a pick to get that sound.  I've seen him play it on an EB-3 and a T-Bird always through an Ampeg rig.

Funny that there's a lot more responses on the Guitar Tone thread.

Ol' nofi just reminded me how much I love fretless bass on his Boz thread.
Tony Franklin is truly The Fretless Monster!!! Love his sound!!!

About a year ago we fixed up one of Lee Rocker's basses at our workshop.

THIS one

It needed a neck re-set and we changed the bridge, I kept the old one as a keepsake.

I don't think I've ever heard anything from Dee Murray that wasn't just perfect.

Paul Simonon gets a nod for making something that most players would avoid sound great.
