Title: Seymour Duncan Custom shop Tbird pup Pot values ?
Post by: godofthunder on November 24, 2009, 01:55:39 PM
After almost 6 months the pickup for my Phoenix ( rehabed '67 Thunderbird II) is finally here ! I checked out my '69 Tbird and the volume is a 500K, I can't read the tone pot there is solder blobbed on it. I read in another post that the tone is a 250K with a orange drop cap. Is this so ? What is the value and where do you find a orange drop cap ? I put the pickup in today and spliced the lead to a cord and plugged this baby in for the first time ! Man does it sing ! Well worth the effort and wait.

Just search for Sprague orange drop capacitors, they're easy to find. Sorry, I don't know the values of either the tone pot or cap.

Borrow a test meter from someone, Scott, and read the resistance values across the 2 outer conns, both ways, to try an eliminate any "feedback" through the circuit... I'm guessing it will be a 250k, but what do I know (considering my mods...) ;D

I'm guessing 250k for the pot and 0.047uF for the capacitor, like that schematic for passive soapbars from seymour duncan.

Orange drop caps are very common, I have bought some from guitarfetish.com for my epi guitar and they are decent caps. Some people find that they sound kinda hi-fi.

One friend suggested me to try a Mallory cap instead, so I bought one to install it to my Bachbird, along with a pair of CTS pots. I bought that from banzai.

I used 500k on the vols and 250k with a .047 Orange Drop on the tones on all 3 of my TBs.  Sounds great!!!

Yea you can use the same value. I got an 0.1uF cap for darker tone.
Mallory caps are used alot on DIY tube amps.
