Other Bass Brands / Re: My new Sire P7 Gen 2

The quality and features on the Sire Bass I bought exceeds the Fender Player P I had which I sold after I bought this bass and had time to play and check it out. It came to me with intonation spot on (using Peterson Strobo Stomp Virtual Strobe tuner) and each not of each string spot on also. Tuners buttery smooth, great sounding and playing with rolled fretboard edges and frets. It has very good sustain. I typically put heavier duty bridges on my Fender Standard basses and didn’t like the L shaped vintage style bridges that came on them but this bridge is made of thicker metal and does quite good. My only  critique of the bridge is it has 4 screws, one on each corner making it not easily replacable without drilling new holes. It has Master Vol, Master Tone, Pickup Blend, Treble cut/boost, Mid Freq/gain, Bass cut/boost, Active Passive Switch which the Blend, Volume and tone work in both active and passive modes. Pickups are very nice sounding. It is the first P/J bass where the J has no noise. Has a bone nut and a 3 string tree encompusing A,D, and G.
It is as good as my Fender American Professional Jazz. The neck on the Fender America Pro neck is just a little thinner front to back as it has a flatter D style. Wiring exceptional. I love playing this bass almost as much as my Fender American Pro. Difference is for now I am keeping the stock D’Addario EXL 170 strings on it and on the Fender I have TI Jazz Flats which for me slightly easier to play but this P7 doesn’t expose the Finger noise like other basses I had them on.

Me too. I'm still faster and more accurate with fingers than a pick.
I am faster and more accurate with fingers but I keep trying to work with a pick as needed or when I think about it which is not really often

Interesting. Some of the reviews of pressurewounds say they look like rounds but don't create the "zing" sound when moving fingers quickly up and down the strings.  Is that true?

They have less zing than rounds and much easier to dial out finger noises without mud to the mix

Sorry guys I will check more often. Been a hard 2 months after major spine surgery

Since posting I put a set of GHS Pressure Wounds on it and so far (4th week) I really like them.

That is correct. Master Volume
The other three are Neck volume, bridge volume and tone and of course the familiar 3 way pickup selector switch. All pots are 500k audio and tone cap is .022ufd which is a bit unusual for bass but I am liking its “no mud” approach the more I play it

Thanks all of you. I am enjoying this bass quite a bit. Love the tone plucking the strings on the neck with TI Jazz Flats for that sorta upright sound. I went ahead and put TV Jones Thundertron Pickups in it as I knew from previous experience  with his guitar pickups were good. These exceeded all expectations. Good String to string balance, strong clear lows, mids and smooth sweet highs

Bought a 2020 Gretsch  G5440LSB Hollowbody bass. Love this bass.
Pleasantly different than my Fender, and ESP basses

I have  two 1x12 Neo cabs and one 15" with Eminence Kappa Pro LFA-2 speaker. It is a "boat anchor" in weight but sure does sound good and can handle 600 watts RMS while each of the two 1 x 12 Eminence Kappalite 3012HO's handle 450 watts RMS.  I can use both 1 x 12 cabs or a 1x12 and 1 x 15. Both 1 x 12's have decent low end, smooth mids and highs and Punchy and high sensitivity allowing them to get quite loud with no muddiness. The 1x12 and 1x15 compliment one another and really gets low, nice mids and smooth highs.

Fender Basses / Re: Building a Jazz from Fender parts

My Fender parts bass
2013 Fender FXR Jazz Body with 2011 NOS Fender Hwy One Jazz neck. All new electronics, Hipshot 27:1 HB7 tuners, Kluson Hi Mass bridge and Seymour Duncan SJB-3 Quarter Pounder Jazz pickups, Fender American Pickguard with body routed so I only have to loosen and tilt neck slightly to adjust truss rod.

I like that bass you are building!
I have had Fralin Jazz Bass pickups that were great sounding
I now have a set of Fralin Pure Vintage Alnico pickups in my Gibson SG Standard and love them
While I do not have experience with the Fralin 50's P pickup I will say, I would not hesitate to put one in a 50's P and especially like the idea of 5% overwound.
I had a Fender 51P Reissue bass several years back that I put a Seymour Duncan SCPB-3 Quarter pounder in that was hotter than normal pickups and really liked it. I think it worked better in that Ash Body bass than the Squier CV 50's poplar body bass I tried as I missed the 51 P and wish I had not sold it.
