I'm pretty sure that's a "comedy" bit.  Look at the other videos from the same user that feature that guy.  At least, I choose to believe that's all done on for comedic effect.  I have to believe it.

Don't have many multi-bass pics, found these on my hard drive.  Don't believe I have posted them.  Many of these are gone now.

F2B, I think?  Played one once, it was a well put together Alembic copy (minus a few frets).  Fairly chunky neck IIRC, and the example I played sounded pretty boring, but even so a good candidate for upgraded electronics.  I've seen them listed for hundreds more than that on Ebay, don't know if they actually sold though.

I thought he was saying $600 just for an Alembic case.

I was.  That's the price quoted by the Alembic dealer for an Exploiter case, several years ago.  I ended up using an SKB 88 key wheeled keyboard case, it wouldn't fit in anything else.  Ripped out the foam and cut styrofoam to shape w/a scroll saw, covered it in velvet.   The bass itself was $1800.  More than I wanted to pay, but had been looking for ages and had money to burn back then.

Relisted for $100 less.  I suspect he'll have to go lower to get it to sell.  Not that it's not worth it (don't know), but not as many people paying that kind of money for a used bass these days it seems.  Unless it's a Fender or a Ric.  Mine was $1800, no case, and 32" scale.  Impossible to find a case that fits, Alembic wanted $600 for one a few years ago.  I doubt I could play a long scale, mine is a reach for the lower frets.  I'm a short scale human, though, normal sized folks may not have the problem.

The Bass Zone / Re: R.I.P. Mike Starr of Alice in Chains

As far as I know he hadn't been with them since shortly after the album Dirt, in the early 90's. Seemed to me  his replacement might be more skilled, but I missed Starr's tone and power.  IMO his simpler style fit the band better.  Always loved his tone.  Very sad, but not completely unexpected.

34, not 84, unless you have 12 Yellowjackets lying around.  My guitar player has talked about doing that to his old Mesa 400+ for years, but I won't buy the Yellowjackets for him.  That amp looks cool, and I still have a barely used set of 12 6L6s from when that 400+ was mine... it'd be tempting if I had an income, and about 6 fewer tube amps.

Glad to see it will handle 2 Ohms, I hate seeing a big amp that can't.

Gibson Basses / Re: Jazzbird?

That's a beautiful bass.  It is now my favorite TBird ever.  It always annoys me when I see a gorgeous Firebird with block inlays that they don't do this on the bass.  Funny that Gibson puts blocks on their guitars but not basses, while Fender likes to put blocks on basses but not guitars.

Great rig, congrats!
I have an old GB 1x15 cab that I really like and I am waiting to get my hands on their new Streamliner amp. If it is everything I hope it is I guess I'll be buying a new amp next year. :D

I like what I'm reading so far, and I haven't met a Genz bass product I didn't like.  Haven't tried the current lightweights, I'm still totally happy with my NeoPak.  It's nice that they're trying to please those of us who like the classic rock tones with the new amp.  I don't think it does  2 Ohms though, but I guess that matter to too many amp shoppers these days.  I may not use it often, but I like to know it's there if I want it.

Does look pretty awesome.  Frustrating to have to wait, but it will be worth it.  Mine was in the shop for over a month after I bought it, glad to finally have it though compared to yours it looks to have been dragged behind a truck for 30 miles.  Sounds great though.  It works well with the guitarist playing through my 5 watt Blackstar, a feat only made possible by the drummer using my electronic kit.  He still hits them too darn hard but now I can turn him down...

Best of luck.  My local Craigslist is full of kooks, I just read it for the comedy.  Hopefully the seller gets back to you soon.

Bass Amps & Effects / Re: In Praise of Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0
« on: October 28, 2010, 03:52:02 PM »
I've never owned a Shuttle, but all the Genz gear I have owned has been super, and their customer service can't be beat.  I was stunned when the reply to my first email about a long out of production amp came from its designer, not only answering my questions but adding a ton of technical information.   Financial ruin forced me to part with my heavies, but I've held on to the Neo-Pak, the Shuttle's predecessor.

Just picked this up.  I don't know the year, or how much is stock, it seems to have some aftermarket and homegrown components.   The speaker is a huge upgrade, a rare and sought after Pyle Driver! All I have on hand is an EVM15L, I may put that in and see how I like it.  Can't afford to buy a replacement speaker.

Functionally, I have a concern, maybe somebody has experience with these amps and can help.  Is channel 1 generally quieter?  It reacts like it has an input pad, have to get the volume close to half to be as loud as channel 2 is around one quarter.  Both channels also have no volume until they are turned up a bit, channel 2 becomes audible much earlier than 1.  Is this normal?  I can take it back within a week and get it repaired free, but if it's just the way the amp's volume controls react there's nothing to repair.  The loose input jacks I can take care of myself.  I'll probably want a 3 prong power cord, but that won't be free.

The "B12" on the circuit boards on the pots makes me wonder if the head began life as a B12;  the chassis looks aftermarket to me, newer than the rest and unmarked in the back.  But then again, I'm pretty cluless.  It sounds good though, even with the current speaker.  Had to trade in my beloved Genz Benz GBE750 to get it, but the Genz didn't have power tubes so it's not like it has a soul, or feelings or anything.

You can definitely (should definitely!) post pics of the Mouradian! I used to get my basses adjusted by him in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Including an '85 Spoiler/Exploiter, but not as unusual as yours!

This is the most recent pic I hae of my Mouradian:

Replaced the stock bridge and knobs with gold, Jon Mouradian finished the job with gold Schaller tuners while he was setting it up with a fresh set of Optima Gold roundwounds.  They told me it had already been modified - it was apparently passive from the factory, had an EMG preamp when I got it.  I don't feel so bad about modding it since it had been already.  I added an active/passive switch, the passive tone is different (or superior, depending on my mood).  I may replace the preamp or return it to passive.  This was #21, one of the ones with much of the work done in Japan;  they declared one of the better examples of that series, having only one cosmetic flaw - the logo was inlaid crooked.  I got the impression there were QC issues with the outsourced work.

The Alembic in your pic is what I was looking for when I found my black one, but Exploiters are hard to find and expensive even then so I jumped at it.  Nice Ric!  One thing I always miss when looking at a 4003 is that contrasting wood stripe down the neck.  I always liked that look.

The Bass Zone / Re: ebay nonsense

Perhaps the "custom mae pick gaurd" is made from mammoth ivory?  It's white, so it probably isn't gold.  It DOES have new Earnie Ball strings, that must raise the price.

Ebay is like TV, and the lottery analogy applies to buyers as well.  Buying something is always a risk, but it can cost you quite a bit more than $1.  Everybody should watch this item, and if it sells run down to the local used guitar store and buy up all the Korean Hamers they have.  Mark them up to a mere $3000, a big savings over the "going rate" on Ebay, and make a bundle.
