Beatles of the Rings ...
« on: January 04, 2021, 05:30:23 PM »
I'm no Fab Four buff, but most of this footage is utterly new to me. Wets my appetite for the movie I didn't know Peter Jackson was making.

Yoko und Linda having friendly chats? The mind boggles.
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

Just as a matter of curiosity, have you ever watched "Yesterday"...?
Without naming the scene, part of it moved me in a way that took me completely by surprise...
I did see it at the cinema (only choice, just for the experience, as I was working on a small west coast Island in winter and the "mobile" was in and this was what was showing in the evening) and got it for Christmas just gone...
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

I had heard about the movie, but that looks better than I was even expecting.  I will simply have to see that.

The "Yesterday" move was also better than I expected.  It's true there is one scene in there that's surprising and riveting.  It probably makes the whole movie worth watching, especially if you're a Beatles fan--which I am.

Yesterday is a lovely movie.

And that footage that Peter Jackson shared is great too. Looking forward to the rest of the footage.

I thought this was gonna be about how the Beatles wanted to make a LotR movie back in the day but got shot down by Tolkein.

Haven't we discussed this before, Jake? Don't take everything so literally.

I ran across this completely by accident last night.  This guy offers strong evidence that the song "All Things Must Pass" wasn't rejected by the other Beatles.  It seems like it was probably George himself who was hesitant about them doing the song.

Ah, if only! Then George Martin would have produced and there would be less echo-o-o-o and rev-v-v-verb on it!

All things must pass, indeed, even the headache of the listener that is usually created by that album's billowing production. One of Spector's greatest crimes, occasional homicide incidents excepted. It needs a remix.

I'm in the minority in that I much prefer the "Living in the Material World" album which is a scaled down album compared to "All Things Must Pass."  Gary Wright's autobiography has an interesting discussion of the recording of LITMW.

Dry German humour.

Funny, I watched these this morning and agree with his (and your) take on it. I ended up watching a bunch more of his clips and really enjoyed them.

I plan to watch more of his videos.  It's refreshing to see someone who does actual research instead of just recycling myths.
