Libertad for the oppressed Gibson masses, burn the Fender palaces!!!

I still don't see what is party-political about the Wikileaks thing - it affects a Republican former and a Democrat current administration, both are (and should be) equally displeased. Is anything not found in the pages of Bass Player automatically of overt partisan-political nature?

Haha, heh, I have a Fender and love the old battle axe.

Seriously though, you make a good point here about the Wikileaks releases affecting both Repubs and Dems, so really partisanship is pretty much a moot point here. My main issue is that, while I am a huge supporter of free speech, I'm also smart enough to know that as a regular citizen, I DON'T need to know everything. Harking back to the preparations leading up to the Normandy Invasion, I sure as hell didn't need to know it was being planned on such a scale. Likewise, I don't feel it's necessary for news to be broadcasting that the 1st Marines (or whoever) is planning a big assault in Afghanistan. Surely if it's all over the news here, aren't the Taliban going to know about it and clear out of the area or worse, set up ambushes, IEDs, etc?

Now, in the case of Watergate, we had politicians and others actively engaged in illegal activity. I sure as hell would have wanted to know about that in general. On the other hand, if my knowing would have endangered the investigation, it would have been in everyone's best interest that I (or most people) didn't know.

I guess what I'm saying is that release of such information can be very useful and informative but it can also be incredibly harmful.

Let's not turn this into another version of the first thread.

So, why flog an immovable object?  Your arm just gets sore and the object is bloodied, but still immovable.  Not very productive or much fun, I think.

I'm surprised these sentences didn't get more notice in this place. As a newly single guy they struck me as funny.  :o

And Uwe, you're one of my favorite Socialists.
