I get really irritated listening to newspeople who know little or nothing about Merle going on air and spreading false stories.
Two local airhead bimbos this morning, one says Merle and Johnny Cash were in prison at the same time, the other said no, Merle was in Folsom Prison when Johnny Cash performed there. In fact, Merle was an inmate in San Quentin when he saw Cash play there.
Another story had Merle as one of the founders of "outlaw" country. In fact, he had nothing to do with it. The "outlaws" (Waylon, Willie et al) were Nashville guys who rebelled against the Nashville system. In fact, Merle was a west coast guy, never part of the Nashville system.
Yet another story had Merle inventing the Bakersfield sound. In fact, that was Wynn Stewart, who both Merle and Buck Owens credited.
Not that I expect talking heads to be experts, but check your facts, for pity's sake.
