Squier VI
« on: June 06, 2014, 09:27:54 AM »
I have always wanted one of these but could never justify the cost. The H.O.G has a beautiful Fender MIJ candy apple red one with matching headstock for $1,200  :o That's just about their cost, way more than I want to spend. I tried the Sqier VM VI and was very impressed it compared very favorably to the MIJ. Musicians Friend has them on sale for $279.00 I ordered black it looks super cool with all the chrome and pearloid inlay. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/squier-vintage-modified-bass-vi

You know, I wasn't really too attracted to the idea of  Fender, much less a 6 string, but all of a sudden, watching that promo vid on the MF page, I am starting to feel a bit of GAS.  Sounds real good in that vid (despite the rounds and their zingy fret noise) + 30" scale + good upper register access.

Dammit.

I played one briefly in a store the other day. No strong impression either way, I own one of the late-'90s MIJ reissues and it is an interesting beast, that's for sure!

The one thing I wasn't impressed with on the Squier was the pickup covers - they were a "white" I haven't seen before, they almost looked like they might glow in the dark!

Build one Scott, or ask Carlo (nicely) ...  ;)

Nah, can't go wrong at that price looking at the reviews.

Well I got one with the buzzy E string, from the 5th fret all the way up the neck. No amount of adjustment helps it in the slightest. Other than that nice build quality a hell of a lot of instrument for 279.00. I am going to ship it back not sure if I'll get another.

The supposed fix is a heavier E.

Check the nut slot and the bridge saddle? Frets level?
