This is for anyone who is interested in Peter Cook and Ned Callan.
Kenny. . . . . Hi. 8)

This is an honest example that is perhaps best described as slightly battered!!
The important bits - neck, board and electrics are fine.
I am going to do a big feature in my blog and describe it in detail.
One thing I can say is. . . . It is nothing like I expected.
I have a '63 Gibson EBO, which sounds as you would expect an EBO to sound. . . .
Thud, Thud, Thud!!!
The Ned. . . . NOTHING like that!!!!!!!!!
Bright, punchy and full of harmonics.
How, I'm not sure, it was a real shock!
Hard to believe but I drifted into slap, playing the Chili's "Higher Ground" and it
sounding perfect.
Start to roll the tone off and things get a bit more mellow and then roll it all the way
and you get near to EBO. . . except and this is really hard to believe. . . . . . . . . .
it is not a "Diver".
Let the neck go and. . . . . . . it stays where you left it!!
Mmmmm, how does that work??????
Well, more to come later, so I'll leave it at that for now.
Cheers. 8)

Looks pretty, too.

The pickups are not mudbuckers so they don't sound like them. The 1 3/4' honduras mahogany body weighs more than your 1" '63 body. My '60 EBO doesn't dive, my '65 and '67 do.
Very cool bass! Look forward to your blog.

Agreed, body thickness and non-mudbucker make the difference.
-
That neck pup looks like a single coil in a big surround judging by the screws either side of the pole pieces
-
i wonder how much neck placement and mahogany would mellow out a model one or a model g?
-
I like that bass !

Wow...!!!
Where the hell did you find her...?
Bolt on or fixed...? I have a suspicion there were both knocking around...

It could well be. I shall find out soon. ;)

Scott, thanks - This one is nothing like the Magnum!! Glad you like it. :)

Ahhh, I thought this would grab your attention!! ;D
I spotted it on a guitar site and saw that it was up for grabs!
It's a fixed neck and it has definately done some miles but with the Peter Cook
connection, I just had to go for it!! ;)
I'm not going to change anything - I like it the way it is - just clean it all up, oil the board,
polish the frets, sort out the nut and give the slightly fuzzy electrics a service.
Top Job!!

(More pics when I put it on my Blog.)
I am going to do a big feature on it, after I have spoken to "Ted", who was
with Peter on the Ned Callan production.
From what I know so far, a very interesting story.
I'll let you know as soon as I have done it.
Off to see Peter and "July" at the weekend - we are going to meet up
and have a chat - will be great to catch up with him again.
Will keep you posted.
Cheers. :)

I love this bass. It's really a cool example of the LP Jr style. I'm really liking the double-cut basses more these days. Very cool, I wouldn't change a thing, just play it!

This is what Hornisse was after too...
Lots of mojo on this Lady...
Enjoy the show...
-
very nice.that pickup looks very interesting too.

Missed that, Tony... six poles... I've seen the same style pup in an Ned Callan bass that has just the 4, a-la-DM1
