The Outpost Cafe / Re: EVH nearly killed by Master Cleanse diet?

Robertson (as well as Downey and Gorham) think Visconti has a distorted memory on how the album came about...

Ha! Nice comeback. Truth is somewhere in the middle I suppose.

Exactly. DLR has had trouble pitching and remembering lyrics all through his career.
But I've seen him live several times and I can assure you it never bothered me one second. I only remember my big smile from ear to ear. He sure knew how to entertain an audience.
I saw VH with Hagar once and I wanted to leave early because I was bored...

Yeah, DLR is what he is. I've always "gotten" his schtick. He's a major factor in what made VH (the band) VH. Never had any interest in the Hagar stuff. I always thought he was a total cheese ball, aside from the Montrose stuff. Great pipes, but kind of a big dork.  :P

Actually, the overdubs on Live & Dangerous were not an exception in the musical landscape of that era. In fact it has been grossly exaggerated how many overdubs were actually done. They did the backing vocals because there was too much bleed on the mics on stage. And I think Gorham may have repaired a solo or two. Robertson refused to do any overdubs at all. Have you ever heard the King Biscuit recordings? They are the basic recordings for Live & Dangerous. If you hear these recordings you wonder why they even bothered to do overdubs in the first place. You hear the band firing on all cylinders.

I have a CD called "Still Dangerous", which is from the same era, but without the overdubs. "Why did they bother?" is right!

Here's what Tony Visconti has to say about it. http://tonyvisconti.com/artists/thinlizzy.shtml Click on the Live and Dangerous cover...

I like the Eagles. They used to write great "story songs" (such as Lyin Eyes, which I love). Always some tasty bass work too, regardless of who's playing.

BTW - PS played bass on Love Gun too, Uwe!

Ah, yeah... X Factor. That stuff IS hard to stomach! And the Voice... just hasn't managed to grab my attention. The judges are their own train wreck.

I think they'll find out soon enough that getting her as a judge was a big mistake.  Of course, I don't plan to be watching anyway, just as most people with a taste in music won't be watching.

I like to think I have "a taste in music" and this is one of the only shows I watch regularly. What can I say? I love a good train wreck! Plus it's fun playing armchair A&R guy/producer. I do start to lose interest as they wind down to the final 4-5 contestants. The show is probably toast at this point anyway. Tyler was great, but with him gone, and last man standing, Randy Jackson (great bass player BTW) leaving, they don't have much going on in the judging department.

I bought my first Bird in '76 a fresh out of the box Bi-cent. I sadly sold it while I was in Boston in '86.

Tom Scholz didn't dig it, huh?  :P

Dang, those are some great songs, some of which I remember hearing as a kid in the late '60s and early '70s. RIP, Joe.

+1

I found that Ginger rather enjoyable. (Yes, I had to utilize Google to find their names...)  ;)

I read an article a while back that said simply lowerering your total intake by 100 calories a day will drop 10 pounds in a years time

Interesting. One trick I've been doing for a long time now is, when I make a sandwich for lunch (which is almost every week day), I put everything on ONE piece of bread cut in half. That's a good 100 cals right there. I also drink tons of water, even when I'm boozing it up. Actually, ESPECIALLY when I'm boozing it up! I'm in much better shape at 48 than I was in my mid-late 30s.

The BaCH TH-1 runs were our little way of getting a version of something we liked and bypassing the outlandish price of the originals and having them a little more accessible.  I'd say the BaCH basses were a stroke of genius, in the end.  We can thank Rob for all the work on that.

I agree 100%. It was a great way for me to satisfy my non-rev curiosity without spending a pile of money. Great basses, GREAT bargain, but in the end, I found, without a doubt, that non-rev birds are not for me.

You can do it if you adjust your eating habits. Often easier said than done, I know. But on the whole, we eat so much more now than when I was a kid. Bigger portions, more choices. No amount of exercise can overcome that.

I saw a quote that said "You can't out-exercise a bad diet". I'm all about moderation. I don't shy away from pizza, beef sandwiches, cheeseburgers, pasta, tacos, etc., but I eat very little fast food and don't drink much soda. I also exercise religiously.

You trying to "out Scott" Scott, Tom...? ;D

Ha ha! I do have one more cab - a 4x10 I built based on SVT specs and loaded with vintage SVT speakers - and an SVT III Pro head I could add to the pyramid.  :o

OK, finally going to post something here! This is the monster rig I brought out last Friday. Top to bottom:

'74 SVT head
custom built (by me) 2x10/1x15 cab
'70s (tilt back) SVT cab

BALLS!  ;D Not to mention tone. The sound guy was cool enough to take both a DI, and mic on the 15, which is my favorite way to go. I typically just use the top cabinet on its wheels, but this particular show was a biggie - 3 bands, with lots of local rock hot shots in the house. Had to bring the biggest gun!
