The Bass Zone / Fly Guitars case stickers
« on: August 12, 2011, 09:36:51 AM »
I've just got a load of stickers printed for my guitar cases - featuring my superfly alter-ego the Gibson bass playing fly. They are quite high quality laminated stickers, hard wearing enough for sticking to cases, amps etc

Anyway, i've got extra stickers spare, so if anyone wants one (or more) please let me know. They are free, but I would appreciate a donation for postage, especially if you are not in the UK. Anyone?

Bass Amps & Effects / Gibson atlas IV bass amp
« on: July 11, 2011, 11:05:50 AM »
I have an old Gibson Atlas IV amp - the cab is in great condition, but the head is knackered.

So I am looking to import a new head to the UK. They just don't come up here, and when they do, they are invariably modded a lot. I mint one would be great, but a non working project may also work if I can combine it with my existing head.

So i'm looking for someone to help me import one - naturally i'll pay all costs and an extra few dollars for your time....

Can any of my friends here act as a middleman for me if one comes up? Anyone know of one for sale?

Thanks all

A mate of mine is putting on a charity gig in aid of the sendai earthquake fund.

It is at the Marshall factory in Bletchley, Milton Keynes (they have a theatre on site)

It features three bands - Martin Turners Wishbone Ash, Stray and Motherlode - all classic rock kind of acts with some great bassplayers. Plus it is at Marshalls... which is a great place to see.

There is an auction too - a Marshall amp,  etc, but the best thing is a chance to roadie for Uriah Heep on a European gig!!! there are loads more items not listed on the site.

Anyway, the date is Sunday 22nd May, tickets are £20 each, and it looks to be a great night.

the website is here
http://www.soundsforsendai.co.uk/

Please publicise this event as much as possible - feel free to copy and paste this message far and wide - whatever other guitar forums you frequent. The Japanese are still in a bad way, plus it promises to be a great gig

Gibson Basses / European City / Epiphone Rivoli / mystery solved
« on: March 02, 2011, 07:42:50 AM »
I found a VERY intriguing postcard under a mudbucker in an old Epiphone Rivoli. I've got an interesting story to tell!

But first, before I tell all, can anyone tell me where this is? France? Holland?

The Bass Zone / looking for inspiration - punk country
« on: February 05, 2011, 02:15:03 PM »
Theres a new track the band is doing that I need a bassline for.

Basically it is a Johnny Cash Fulsom Prison style country plod thing, but we need to do it slightly punkier.

As far as I can tell (i'm not a big fan, despite the Epiphone Newport) most Johnny cash basslines are much the same.  I have got a bassline already made up, but it's not final yet.

So does anyone know of any punkier/heavier/grungier versions of his songs... it would be interesting to know what other bassplayers have done with these lines over the years.

thanks guys

Gibson Basses / Jack Casady Interview
« on: January 31, 2011, 07:09:01 AM »
Fly Guitars is delighted to feature an interview with a bass legend, Jack Casady. You guys will no doubt be interested in the development of his own Epiphone Jack Casady Signature bass. But it is in seven parts, including: how he started out, Fender Jazz basses, Guild basses, Alembic and Modulus, Epiphone Jack Casady Signature bass, amps, and other basses.

Thanks go to Jack Casady and Graham Fieldhouse. Also thanks to the guys on the outpost who helped with some proof reading, especially Rob van den Broek and John Lessick.

The Outpost Cafe / proof reading
« on: January 18, 2011, 07:53:34 AM »
Hi all,

i've got a new interview to post on flyguitars - and i'm looking for a few proof readers.

What I need, is not so much proof reading (ie looking for spelling mistakes - although that is welcome too), but more looking for things not looking right, due to odd browsers/operating systems.

So, although you can still help me if you use windows/ie, I really want people with macs/linux/safari etc etc to have a look - make sure theres no odd display issues with other set ups.

anyone got 30 mins spare to help?

Thanks
Jules

The Outpost Cafe / The Blockheads
« on: June 17, 2010, 12:52:02 PM »
I go to quite a few gigs... but

the other night I had the pleasure to see (and play on the same bill as) the Blockheads.

I was utterly stunned at how good they were. Norman Watt Roy was phenominal, but they all were. I stood in the pouring rain, drenched to the skin, dancing like a madman

Best performance i've seen in decades.

if you get a chance don't miss them...

Bass Amps & Effects / Gibson GA-100 GA-80 GA-60
« on: March 26, 2010, 01:14:40 PM »
I'm looking for early sixties Gibson bass amps, especially the GA-100

Anyone here have one they want to sell/trade

ok, didn't think so. But anyone here tried them?

I very nearly got a GA-100 recently, and really wished i'd bid a bit higher. I  had just bought an Ampeg B-15 so funds were tight, but I am still keen to get hold of one.

I know they are not particularly rated, but hey, since when do we follow the crowd?

Gibson Basses / Gibson EB3 wiring help
« on: March 18, 2010, 04:57:26 AM »
What I want to do, is wire up an EB3 the same as an EB2D - so tone choke can be used in any configuration - ie i'd have a three way switch independent of the choke control, so I can use the bridge pickup choked. I don't want to add any holes to scratchplates or anything, If I can possibly help it. I want it to look stock.

So - can any of you electronics wizzard give me a way of doing it with a push pull pot maybe?

thanks
jules
