Could be wrong but that looks like a 4003 pup shroud.

Refin'ed '78 4000. Routed for a P pickup under the pickguard.

Nothing is what it seems but everthing is exactly what it is.

and of course, too much $$$ for a refin with a rout.

Absolutely. Looks great though.

The $3,500 BIN price is borderline insane IMHO but the pics are drool worthy.

weekend warrior

Borderline? I'd say full blown insane!LOL

$3500?? For half that I'd consider it. I'd love to get a replacement pickguard and put a P-Bass pickup back in it.

Basshappi

Or just mount the pup under the pickguard, best of both worlds. :D

This one is interesting - assuming it's original - an '81 4003 in what looks like Walnut (glossy Autumnglo), black plastic and CHECKERBOARD BINDING. Anyway if it's a FG, it's an unusual application of this finish. Could be a refin, or another RIC "experimental model".

I'm thinking refin because the TRC has a white corner that suggests a white TRC that was sprayed black.

I've seen that one before. Great looking bass. I know there were a few oddballs that escaped the factory with checkerboard binding in the 80s. The finish IS unusual though. Either way, probably worth the opening bid.

yeah, could be fun....remember they sent all kinds of unique basses out of the country to support high spending levels in places like Japan.....nice of them to remember us!!!

I would play it.. ;)
