back with price lowered.

If he's only going to lower the starting bid by £100 this may be the first of many reductions.

Are you seeing this from an American point of view?

I don't understand what you mean.

When nobody is willing to meet your starting bid, lowering the starting bid by only about 4% is not much of an incentive. If he's only going to lower it a little bit at a time, he may find himself having to do that over and over. Even if he doesn't lower his reserve (if he has one), lowering the starting bid enough to generate some buyer interest is a tried and true sales tactic.

I meant that prices for Rickenbackers are higher in Europe than in America. In general Dollar price is Euro price once in Europe. I.m.h.o. it is not very expensive for a 21 fretter in Europe. It is not a good time to sell at all, but I think I have even seen 21 fretter sell for double this price in the past.

There may have been a few 21 fretters sell for more than this, but one way or another, I'm not disputing value. It's worth what someone is willing to offer for it.

All I'm saying is, if it doesn't get even one bid, lowering it in tiny bits is less likely to draw interested bidders than a bigger reduction.

When I bought my 21 fretter in 1998 I paid $500 for it.  All of the Ric "experts" of that time frame thought it was a fake.  It was pretty beat and needed some work and did not have some of the original parts but it sounded like no other Ric I've played before or since.  The sound guy who mixed the country band I was in at the time loved the tone.  I sold it when I bought my first Alembic back then.

I get your point. I would have relisted without lowering the price.  ;) 21 fretters have been a sort of Holy Grail just as much as the 4005 amongst some Rickenbacker aficionado's and the seller only needs one of them.

A 21-fretter is basically a 4001 that had its bridge moved forward by about 1/2", but the pickups stay in the same place, so effectively what you get is a 4001 with the pickups moved 1/2" backwards.

So in effect, the neck pup gets to go below the harmonic, like post 74's.

Yes, the neck pickup is in a post-74 position if you measure from the bridge.

I never really got the "below the harmonic" thing. I mean, that is only the open string harmonic, but harmonics move when you fret different notes, don't they?

Yes. And the earlier mentioned one just got sold.

Someone got a great deal on that bass.  I sold my '72 Eggplant 20 fretter for 2500 5 years ago and it had some work done on it.  Don't forget the 21 fretters also had the extra 1/2 inch added to the neck.  So in effect they are 1/2 inch longer than 20 fret basses.
