So, what kinda bass is this? Often wondered, never in the know...

Wasn't there a thread about this one some years ago here?

Chris, you're starting to sound just like me, and my father before me. I thought I was, as Shane Fenton - later to become Alvin Stardust - put it: Too young for sad memories. But that kinda memories can't be sad, huh? Or can they? Or are we too old for good? Problems, problems...
-
We did discuss it here in a small part of a larger thread. The question came up at the FDP years ago, someone wrote Chris Hillman and he didn't know or remember. Must have been a parts bass.

Definitely a P style, but the headstock is the open book kind, and the tuners are mounted front to back through the headstock, not on the side. There's a shot of the headstock with a brand name script across the top, but it's not legible at the resolution of the video.

Looks like the name begins with a P or maybe a fancy D

Looks like a Fender logo to me. Not original, of course.

from that other forum:
"...sent Chris a note from his web page, and he responded. It was a bass that was loaned to him for the filming, and he never did know what it was. He assumed it was a Fender body with a custom or home made neck. He never used it again."

Thanks. Now we have it here for the next time this comes up a couple of years down the road.

Great! But hold on! Something else is trying to get up from the bottom of my conciousness...
