Fano Non Reverse Fenderbird
« on: December 19, 2015, 09:36:29 AM »
Anyone ever heard of these?

I was watching a (fantastic) Dizzy Miss Lizzy concert and their bass player is playing a green (lefty) Fano bass.

Made me curious. So I googled the name and found the Fano website

http://www.fanoguitars.com

Here's a video from the 2012 NAMM about the bass

EDIT: I see it was discussed earlier here: http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=7184.msg114541#msg114541

That headstock reminds me of cut-away side on the old Ovation solid-body instruments, but I can't find a photo of one at the moment.

It does have that kind of cut in common with the new Starcasters.

Nice touch, IMO.

i sa quite a lot of Fano guitars in The Netherlands, in shops and on stage, but not many basses. Only on the NAMM show.

Who in a right mind is going to pay 4000 dollar for such an instrument?
That pickguard looks like a leftover piece of plastic they screwed onto the bassfor the time being.

I thought the same thing!  It was the Ovation "Utlra" series in the 80s that had that headstock...

The same people who pay as much or more for Fender Custom Shop relics?

Oh, yeah, the price on the white hollowbody is insane (for that much, or a tad more, I'd get a vintage LP Sig; a Midtown costs just less then half that new and not banged up - purposefully or otherwise) - was just saying it looked like an interesting one; I'd take it down off the rack and plug'r in.

Thank you. I spent 10 minutes looking for a photo of that headstock and couldn't find it.  I bow to your Google skills!

Is the Fenderbird enjoying a Renaissance at the moment?

It's an evergreen here and nowhere else.

It's definitely not just here. The roots of the evergreen may be here, but the pine cones have spread their seeds.

Who wants a mock-T-Bird with an alder body? Once you leave the maho behind not only for the neck, but also for the body and skip the set neck/neck-thru construction you are very remote from what a TBird is and what it can do. Bit like a neck-thru Telecaster-shape guitar with a wenge neck and a bubinga body ...

Don't give Hans Peter Wilfer any ideas!

True, it sounds like something (the new, resurrected) Framus would come up with!
