2008 TBIV tuners & case
« on: May 28, 2016, 12:16:55 PM »
I have a 2008 TBIV with only a gig bag. I looked online for a Gibson case and could not find one. Anybody know where I can get one? I
I like their glamorous 'strip tease' colored linings. I see there are Epiphone case which would probably work or is the size slightly different?
TBIV tuners: There is a slight neck dive. Are there any lighter weight keys that would fit on it?
Thanks for any advice or leads.

An Epi case definitely will work.  I keep my 3 big headstock 60s-70 TBirds in them.

IMO you're not going to get much lighter than the stock tuners even if you use the special order Hipshot (small) clovers.  Maybe try a wider/grippier strap.

I have a late model Gibson USA TBird case: black 'snakeskin' exterior, white interior.  Exterior is mint, combination has never been set. Interior has a slightly discolored area.  It's big and it's heavy.

I'd entertain offers on it. ;)  Personal opinion, I'd go for an Epi case.

I can't compare it to an authentic Gibson T-bird, but I put hipshot ultralight cloverleafs on my Greco bird and it shaved off about a half pound of weight from the headstock. Huge difference in neck dive - there is almost none at all now.  (I also moved the strap button to the heel, which helped a little, but not nearly enough.)   On the down side, you do have to drill a hole for each tuner.
Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy

The Stagg RB2 ABS hard case fits my Greco Thunderbirds perfectly - it's very light but sturdy - as good as any of the SKB ABS cases.
