George Martin's importance in music is just beyond words.  Very sad.

And I herewith forgive him some of the America output! Even brilliant minds can sometimes err.  ;)

Come to think of it ... maybe George Harrison ought to forgive the other George some of the America output for purloined guitar lines and sound?  8)

Naw, America were quite alright, a guilty pleasure, kinda like the Bee Gees without glitzy jackets - corduroy ones instead because that shows that you are concerned about the environment, peace and stuff.

RIP Sir George. His work changed people's lives and had worldwide impact. There are not a lot of people in the entertainment biz that made a mark such as his.

I win the contest "most obscure Gerorge Martin post-Beatles-production" with this here! I believe UFO was his one and only venture into the hard rock world.

He sure mixed Phil Mogg's voice loud. A bit too upfront for UFO's type of music. But at the time the album gave a first time Schenker-less (ignoring their formative days before Schenker) UFO a new lease of life when everybody thought they were done with. Retaining George Martin as a producer raised a few eyebrows and generated some interest though UFO were in two minds whether he was the right choice for a band like them. But a lot of UFOlogists are fond of that particular album to this day.

I kinda forgot he produced this. One of my favorite albums of all time:

Ah, the last person here that stood up for jazz rock/fusion was John Fertig in Düdepitdaze! Before, of course, Dave swooped down on him and nuked the innocent Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Between the two of us: I like that album too! And Blow by Blow of course.
