72 fretless maple neck on fleabay Good deal or no?
« on: March 02, 2013, 08:14:16 AM »
These can be tough to find, if it had the original nut and tuners I would have hit BIN all ready. Not sure what he means but the truss rod turns freely, I have asked for clarification on that. I was going to use a cheaper alternative for my build but having the "real" part would be nice. Would you guys pop for this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/190805722672?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I think it's a good deal as is. Most Fender necks of this vintage don't come with hardware anyway. And very few are under $500. The B width is nice too.

Kenny it's a slippery slope! Knowing me I won't be satisfied with the project till it's all vintage Fender  :-[ The body I bought is from a 2012 "70's" P bass Hopefully I can make do.

I think I paid around $450 for my neck, without tuners. Once I found tuners I probably had $650 in that neck. Then I stuck it on the $550 T-bird body and suddenly I was into it for over a grand. Then at ridiculous Bicentennial pickguard...

I justified it all because a) I love seeing old stuff put back together and b) the T-bird was turned into a Fenderbird back in the 1970s so it's all period. :)

If you want to make it feel more authentic you could always route under the PG and install a piece of railroad track to make it have 70's Fender Precision weight.  ;D

I am not sure about the age of my teachers bass but I' guessing around '72-'74 I'm thinking it had a alder body, I don't remeber deep grain like a ash body.

Nope, they greet us every morning with a "where's the nuts" look on their faces, and not a USA passport (Jackie just got her new one) in sight...
