LOL I thought I was going to read that you came home today with two basses ! Great to see you at the HOG !
Can't explain it, but I'm still gassing for the 50th. anniversary CAR jazz. Guess I'm feeling nostalgic over my old 63 from my youth. ;)
Bill you know you want it!
Building, or rather assembling, your own replica would be very easy Bill. Allparts sells a dead on CAR body and all the other components. Duncan or Lollar for the pickups.
There is something to be said for instant gratification ;D
Go For It!
I did, it was toogoodadeal to pass up. Pics later when I get home. At the mall on my iPad right now!
St. Gibby will forgive you at the great Alnico gates.
You and I have both been gooddealing today, Bill. Enjoy!
Whoa, did you satisfy some GAS today too? Tell me, tell me........
This Hagstrom...

Here she is. Just like my old 63 except with blocks. A real beauty and plays really nice. Now, my Fender GAS is quelled! Ah, nostalgia......... :P
Now, my Fender GAS is quelled!...
Very nice.
Yeah, sure. Until next week. :P ;)
I like it, Bill! That's a full-dress Jazz and I love the look.
Interesting look with the blocks on the neck but no binding. When I was in Japan they had a reissue with binding on the neck and dots - I think it was based on a transitional '64 - I was wondering if your '63 had binding?
You know I love the look of both covers...I added them on my Jazz.

Exactly. I call that my "Kansas City whorehouse bass" because it's all dressed up; even the strap has silver conchos and buckles.
And it's not purple.
I just realized, the MIJ Fender P-Bass I bought recently came with a nice brochure for the 50th anniversary Jazz - I might try and scan it later if I have the time.
Thank you!

That's too bad. Is this a new (NOS) bass from 2009? It should be covered. If it's used, I'll be surprised if Fender does anything since their instrument warranty isn't transferable.
Oh man that's a bummer. Makes Gibsons qc look pretty good huh? ;D
If it weren't so sad, I'd laugh. Fender called the shop where I bought the CAR j bass and said they really didn't have the facilities to repair the finish on the headstock!!! Can you believe this? They turn a couple thousand of these things, but they can fix one? Or do a new neck and swap it out? The a-hole Fender rep even offered me $300 to keep the bass and go away. I told the shop to tell him to stuff it where the sun don't shine and fix the damn bass. Now that they've tipped their hand, I'm not giving in!!! >:( I don't want my money back, or a discount for a screwed up finish. I want the warrany adhered to, period. Should be a long interesting road we're headed down.
$300 and correct decal seems like a fair deal. i agree though it doesn't let them off the hook. they must be spending too much ime distressing finishes and charging a premium.....
So, now we have a crappy Fender response to a bad job and hot on the heels after crappy Gibson response to a bad job. Doh!
(sniff) I love happy endings! :)
Now for the unbeleivable conclusion to the J bass saga. The Fender repair shop in AZ has a new, unused CAR body (getting the body too cuz there was a chip in the bottom out of the box as well) and neck (with blocks) on the shelf and they are sending to the local shop for a swap out!!!!! No charge! I have to say, Fender's rep and shop really came through for us and Kurt at House of Guitars is the best salesguy around. Parts should be here is less than a week.
Now I'm a happy camper!! ;D
New body and neck, uhum. If that is how they "repair" all their basses then no wonder thex need an IPO to generate some money!
When you sell it, you can say it's 100% original except for the body, neck, electronics and hardware. 8)Or you can just say it's original and don't tell Dave :o
Or you can just say it's original and don't tell Dave :o
It would be cool if they let you keep all of the parts!
Maybe they could give you some kind of certificate acknowledging that the work was done? Doesn't seem too far-fetched, given how far-fetched the situation is!
Not a bad idea. Maybe I could get a letter from them. Frankly, I don't see it as an issue since it's all original Fender parts done under Fender warranty by a factory authorized tech. I mean really, it isn't like I personally parted the thing together. It's a lot different IMHO with something like an amp where circuits have been replaced or the electronics on a bass were bad and had to be redone. It's two hunks of wood that are primarily there to hang the hardware on. I think we're making way too much out of this.
Well, this is interesting because, in truth, it is all oriental factory parts. The only unoriginal aspect is they didn't leave the factory together. Would it make any difference to a buyer? I don't know. I'd hate to try and explain it as it is a bit farfetched and might be hard for some people to even believe. You know how we are so skeptical of some of the claims we read in eBay auctions! Someone might think it's just a random parts bass I assembled and was trying to cover that up. Oh well, if I keep it till I'm gone, no one will probably know or care. It doesn't feel like a flipper to me.
Is she done ?
Sure looks purty, glad it worked out!
Bill you need this! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-Fender-Jazz-Bass-Candy-Apple-Red-FEB0254-/330681588005?pt=Guitar&hash=item4cfe289925
You guys are no help at all! I just had to dump a small fortune into a lawn mower for the 2 acres I mow since my old tractor bit the dust over the weekend. My partner in bass buying has put the brakes on my fun for a bit. Can't blame her, I got as really nice John Deere! ;D
That's when the wise husband just says, "Yes, Deere." ;)
... "Yes, Deere." ;)
In this house, those words (phonetically speaking) are code for "you are in deep, brown, steamy territory, sonny Jim...!" :o ;D
Yep. When I do say that, it's with a certain amount of smurkiness and then I run for the hills!!! :o
"Head for the SHED..." ;D
I vrecommend sum qvwality time spent in your werkshop... ;)
I have a dog that would spray your barn for free. ;D
What color would you shoot him...?
