I know there's a couple fellas here that may want to bid on this.

the shipping is twice as much as it should be. you can still ship a bass anywhere in the 48 for about 17.80. :P
-
Should be interesting to see how much this paddle brings in.................. The Ferrari Red seems to be twice as rare as the Luna Silver.
-
Hmm, no postage to UK, seller isn't answering questions either (got them switched off it seems). If I was to go for this, is anyone willing to act as postage intermediary on my behalf?
-
Ah, my soon to be Scottish comrade is looking for a paddle to dig up the neep's...
-
Neeph, I've got a mate in Massachusetts who would be able to act as an intermediary. He comes to the every couple of months, but I'm certain he'd be able to get it shipped here without issue. The £100 just to ship in the US is a bit mentals.
P
-
Maybe some of you don't realize that when a flat shipping amount isn't specified by the seller, the shipping cost displayed is figured by eBay's shipping calculator based on the distance from the seller to your zip code. My browser shows $39.13 which is reasonable from New Jersey to Minnesota.

I might be able to ship a bass from Minneapolis to Des Moines for that. Maybe even to Chicago. Cross country for $17.80? Not a chance.
-
Mine was shipped from North Carolina to Minnesota for $29.95 about 4-1/2 years ago................
-
I shipped a tbird with full insurance and had them pack it....176$ us. Nova Scotia to north dakota

And I created them all! It's one of the few feats in my life. Having made the 20/20 popular, albeit only here.
-
That's how I ended up on this board in the first place. I was surfing for info on the 20/20.....................something that you don't see much of. Low & behold! Uwe's 20/20 on the "Last Bass Outpost"!! Now Look at what you have done!!

How can a Lawyer, so far away, be so influential??
I happen to be watching a rerun of Boston Legal (http://bostonlegal.wikia.com/wiki/Boston_Legal_Wiki) right now. I could think of Uwe as a cross between Denny Crane and Allen Shore.
Edge to Allen: http://bostonlegal.wikia.com/wiki/Alan_Shore

Yeah, Uwe was the incubator!
It took a while till they started to hatch.
But slowly...

You look great with that 20/20, Rob, very musicianly. Everyone in the audience will be thinking: "That thing is so ugly, there must be a special reason why he is playing it."
When I joined The Dudepit, the 20/20 was the running gag/butt of jokes in the forum for the Gibson bass you did not want to be seen with even though - to my knowledge - no one had at that time actually played one. Some years ago it received accolades in the German muso mag Gitarre & Bass as "the best thought out and most ergonomic paddle bass ever". Go figure! 8)
-
Everyone in the audience will be thinking: "That thing is so ugly, there must be a special reason why he is playing it."
Exactly. The special reason is that thing sounds so BRUTAL! Plus the coolness of being ugly 8)
-
Sounds great Rob!! Those paddles are going up in value as we speak......
Henry, if you're listening, you have four years to prepare yourself for the 20/20 reissue............
A 2020 20/20 reissue only seems logical. Make it Bluetooth or something so it doesn't sell again..........

You mean it's worth sawing that into a 20/20 and then you're all set? Where is Scott/God of Thunder and Rock'n'Rochester when you need him?

What's your point? That's a flat shipping cost the seller chose, it has nothing to do with the actual cost of shipping. If he sells it with free shipping, you surely don't think UPS will let him ship it for free.
Here's the actual cost to ship a bass and case weighing 15 lb. from my Twin Cities zip code to commercial address in an Atlanta zip code, in a 52x21x7 box (the box my SG Faded with hard case came in):
UPS 45.64
Fedex 39.04
USPS 34.01
In all three cases, the weight is upped based on the size of the box, e.g. UPS charges a 47 lb. rate for this size box.
Smallest bass box I have is 51x16x5, that's for a short scale bass with a gig bag. That would still be 27.25 UPS to a commercial address in Atlanta, charged as 25 lbs. It would still be 34.01 by USPS.

Im not even remotely concerned with the cost of shipping a bass at the moment...but you picked Atlanta as your proposed location and I haven't been back to Minnesota in a couple years so Ill pick a few other items to fill your proposed box with and we can test the rates.
Ill start with a 16x24 souffle cake from the Wuollet bakery, some overpriced Tomato soup from Byerlys, a large Cariboo coffee, a taco wrap from Maynards on lake Minnetonka, a pair of Juicy Lucys from Matts and a watered down cocktail from Nyes Polonaise Room. If there's any room in the box after that just fill the rest with some crumpled up Star Tribunes or menus from The Gay 90s. Ah, home sweet home.
That should roughly approximate the weight of a 20/20. Head to the nearest Fedex Store and send it down, post a copy of the receipt and we can settle this dispute once and for all. ;D

I picked Atlanta b/c that's where Tom (nofi) lives.
Nye's will be closing early next year to make room for a high rise.
Matt's is still going strong. Blue Door Pub is better. They make Blucys. :)

Nye's is closing?!?! That place should be a historic landmark. And just when I thought live Polka Bands were poised to make a comeback..

Live polka bands never went away, especially in this part of town.
-
It's up to just over $733.00 with three days to go. Any bets on how high it will go? My Spidy senses tell me it will at least triple what it is now. Place your bets!
-
That wouldn't surprise me. I'd guess at least $1500.
-
Oh my, my 20/20 has then just morphed into a profitable investment!!!
-
Oh my, my 20/20 has then just morphed into a profitable investment!!!
Maybe, we'll see. Still at $760 with 11 hours left but I do expect it to jump way up at the end. Didn't the last one fetch about $1200?
-
The last one I remember selling, had the leg rest missing & went for over $2,000.00. The JMJ 20/20 went for just over $1,200.00.
-
Well sod that, I'm not that interested! And still didn't trigger the reserve :P
I see it's back up already, I wonder if the seller lowered the reserve.
-
Ended at $1725, reserve not met. :o
-
this seller sells mostly cars, trucks and parts. he may not have a clue as to the 20/20.

Would have been better if the seller didn't have a clue in the right (i.e. cheap) direction.
-
What was the reserve?
-
last bid was 1725. reserve not met.
-
I PM'd you. I can't find the reserve from here, you have to be in the US because it's a US only auction.
-

He does call himself Sklar10. Maybe he knows more about bass than you'd think? :)
-
I have chosen to build one by myself. I have a neck, one original pickup, one EMG replacement, Sperzel tuners and Schaller bridge and ordered what I need to complete it. I will spend at last less than 400 € and enjoy the time drawing, cutting, painting, finishing and finally playing looking at the my band mates wondering how can I play Sushine of you love on such an ugly bass. Sure I have my vintage Gibson EB0 and EB2 and my ebony fretboard 90 TB, but making my own ugly bass is priceless.
Note that the help of pals on LBO is priceless.
-
believe me, he does not know much about basses at all.
-
He does call himself Sklar10. Maybe he knows more about bass than you'd think? :)
Could be, but maybe that's just his last name. Lee Sklar is a Californian, this seller's on the opposite coast.
I'd say he knows at least enough to find out what these have been going for. Maybe he's been lurking here. :)
-
I didn't mean it'd be Lee Sklar. But a fan maybe. It's not a common name.
-
Yep, could be a fan. OTOH if he knows nothing about basses, as nofi said, you have to wonder how he wound up with a 20/20 of all things.
-
the reserve on the relisted auction is 3500 dollars. that is why he is bass illiterate, imo. :o
-
Jeez...I wonder what he has for a reserve on the Bass IV he has in that case..
It seems odd that he has 2 NOS basses for sale and neither one has the original case too. There has to be some odd backstory on how he got these.
-
Well the Ferrari Red 20/20 is a pretty rare beast. Only 100 were made. This one is new old stock.
3500 is a lot of money, but I can understand why he doesn't want to let it go for 1750.
-
I didn't notice that he has a Bass IV up too. I doubt he's bass illiterate then, just unrealistic about the value.
-
This one managed to sneak by me.............. It was a bargain in comparison...........

Yeah, but the finish looks horrible...

-
That is nasty! :o :o :o At least it looks like somebody loved it enough to wear it out! Also, no sign of the Gibson lettering on the pickups......
P.S..... After thinking about it, I remembered reading about a bass I'd read about on Talkbass, looked it up & confirmed that it was that bass. Here is the story..........

Same guy! Bought it for $400, got it working and sold it 3 years later for $875.
Forget gold, put your money in oddball Gibsons!
-
It's what I always said!
I'm right so very little of the time that I really relish it when the opposite (of being wrong) occurs accidentally. There is a saying in Germany: "Even a blind chicken finds a seed once in a while."
-
I've been sucked into buying "Oddball Gibsons" most of my guitar collecting life! Time will tell if there are many interested buyers when I finally put some of them up for adoption............. :vader:

Or as the English version goes, even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while.
-
Or the Texas version, "Even a blind pig finds a truffle now and then."
-
Never got this. If anything, blind pigs find more truffle, because they have a sharper sense of smell.
-
Ilan, you don't even eat porc, much less truffled one! ;)
-
Or the Texas version, "Even a blind pig finds a truffle now and then."
AHEM! :) The full version as I've always heard is: "Even a blind hog finds an acorn in the forest at night occasionally" Not for a second that this makes any more sense ???
-
Or the Texas version, "Even a blind pig finds a truffle now and then."
I never heard it that way! Was there a lot of truffle hunting in Aggieland when you were there? And if so, why didn't they just turn the coeds loose?
-
Dave, that was very dirty old man and full of sexual innuendo. There really shouldn't be any room for stuff like that here.
That said, truffle scent does remind me of it as well.
-
Ilan, you don't even eat porc, much less truffled one! ;)
I've always been an atheist and I eat whatever I like.

I tend to use the phrase most often on the golf course, on the rare occasion when I hit a really good shot.
I learned that Texans speak in metaphor more than any other cultural group I've met (although I'm sure it's pervasive in the south.)
The meaning of the phrases is always clear in context:
"That dog won't hunt."
"I'll run that rabbit."
"He's all hat and no cattle."
"Bless your heart." (Seldom if ever a compliment.)
"I'm fixin' to...." (Made famous by Bush #41)
"Who stuck the burr under your saddle?"
"Rode hard and put up wet."
"We've howdyed but we ain't shook."
-

Welcome to the club then. Us agnostics take atheists too though it's another form of religion. ;)
-
I like to back into doorknobs........Does that count? :-*
-
though it's another form of religion. ;)
I hear that a lot but in fact atheism is the opposite to religion. It's disbelief in god(s) and religions.
-
Ha, you still BELIEVE that there is nothing there! You can't know for sure though (because gods and higher beings have the habit of avoiding forensic evidence to their existence or non-existence), so the belief ingredient is similar to religion, especially since most atheists don't want a higher being to exist. Us agnostics don't care either way, we find there is no proof either way, but we have no preference. Agnostic comes from Latin and means "no belief", atheism is Latin too and means "no god".
Or as Edith says: "Agnostics are just too chicken shit to form a real opinion."
-
I prefer to believe in a benign and benevolent god...but I'm pretty sure he doesn't do dictation for anyone. It's personal.
-
Oh for Odin's sake, let's not get into a religious discussion.
I've met some dogmatic atheists but the absence of a belief is not a belief.
-

Most of those are general Southernisms.
Two of my favorites, from a former coworker:
"I feel like I've been et up by a wolf and shit over a cliff."
"He makes my butt want to take a dip of snuff."
-
One of my favorites from a central Idaho cowboy friend:
"That boy don't have the brains god promised a fencepost."
-
"He makes my butt want to take a dip of snuff."
;D The version I've heard all my life, mainly from my dearly departed dead uncle " ...makes my ass want to take a dip of snuff"
I had a manager that was a genuine Texas farm boy - one of his favorites "he/she/they're tighter than Dick's hatband" another one I've heard a bunch is "he's tighter than a fat girls sock"

Pretty much no religion here...just a hunch...

I'm impressed that the Bass IV he is selling made it up to $960. I like mine but I don't think I would pay that much for one.

Elkhounds don't speak with wolves. They corner moose and keep them at bay until the hunters get to the scene. Especially in Norway.

Ok, Elkhound Whisperer then.

The people who have been herding the elk have been sacked. They will now be herding moose.

Norsk Elghund = Norwegian Moose Dog. They're bred to hunt what we call moose and the Europeans call elk. And they're not hounds.

Not at all.
You never know, though. Maybe he's just testing the waters and isn't serious about selling unless he gets way over market.
-
The seller is back up with the Bass IV, with a "By It Now". He didn't relist the 20/20.................

$1599 BIN? He's still dreaming.
-
From time to time, I surf around looking to see if any stray 20/20's have popped up for sale.................... Not for a long time. But I did run unto this shirt. I'd bet not many of these were sold either. It's a "must have" for Uwe I'm sure!

Where on earth did you find that? One of those tee shirt places that only prints them when you place an order?
-
Must be from the same people I bought this one last year!
I do a search for ´gibson EB6 white´now and then, and there it was :)
-
Where on earth did you find that? One of those tee shirt places that only prints them when you place an order?
It was on Google images, searching for Gibson 20/20 basses. I looked again today to post a link.................... didn't see it again............
-
Same here; google images. I think the company was called Olympiatees or something.
-
Found it................ I wonder if they'd give the LBO discount?
http://www.olympiatees.com/view/7875/i-love-it-when-my-wife-lets-me-play-my-gibson-20-20-funny-musician-t-shirt
P.S........... For the same obscure reasons that I bought two 20/20's, I ordered the tee shirt; in Luna Silver of course!
-

Odd, they don't seem to be one of those places like Cafe Press that let you design your own, yet they have these. I wonder how that came to be.
-
I think that I am one of the few that could order both 20/20 and EB-6 shirts (another is Uwe of course). I have clones of both!
Just searched a few basses: they have Grabber, Thunderbird and Starfire!
-
What would be a reasonable price for a silver 20/20?
-
$900 to $1,000..............? If you can find one. Guitars this odd are kind of hard to get a consensus on fair pricing.
-
The shirt came yesterday, pretty quick. The graphics are a bit weak looking IMHO......................

-
My wife has no say in which bass I play😜
-
Mine doesn't either, but the 20/20 is the only one she made a comment on as being ugly.............. Oh the Humanity!
-
Jackie can't understand why I need more than the one...
(agreed about the shirt graphics, btw, but it's the fact that it exists...)

How about an "I Love Chrome Hardware on my Gibson Bass" tee???
Jackie can't understand why I need more than the one...

More than one tee shirt? Surely she doesn't object to multiple basses!

The 20/20 is as male a design as it gets. All edgy, no rounded pussy-footin' and you would get compliments for it at any NRA Convention.
