Other Bass Brands / Re: The Skyline Decade....

That is one sharp looking bass. Its nice to finally see some real images (not that the photoshopped image wasn't nice) of what the decade is looking like. Makes me wish I had the cash to shell out to pick one up when they become available.

Nice, me like. =)

Always enjoyed the Iceman basses. Not particularly found of the inlays, but other than that... Very nice!

Thought this might be worth updating/commenting/bringing up again.
Now Gibson has put up ALL of the 'GoM' Guitars. All the way to Jan of '09.
And I guess they really meant 'guitar' when they said it; not a bass in sight. But still some interesting designs.

I particularly enjoy the  'Reverse Explorer',

and the Chrome SG Diablo.

I was thinking this one was a long-scale also... guess I was wrong. I presume its just the SG Supreme (natural flametop) that is the long scale.
Either way, I dig the finish. Its really unusual to see a more outrageous design on a Gibson (who seem to pride themselves on more muted, non-loud colors).

Nice, I don't remember seeing those particular concepts; but based on the ebay one, they would have looked amazing.

And I think you're right about both the tax season and the $4k list price. Theres a little over 5 hrs left on the bidding. I bet the price either skyrockets at the last few moments, or someone is going to get a steal of a bass.

Thought I'd post this here (I'm sure its probably already up on the Pit), in case some of you hadn't seen it yet.
This Decade has been haunting me for weeks trying to get me to bid on it, even though I certainly don't have the cash to. Mainly because its all sparkly-teal, which reminds me of my Danelectro.

Also the same guy has a Gold Lakland Hollowbody, and elsewhere on Ebay is a gold Sheff

I just keep repeating to remind myself "I'm happy with my Thunderbird".

Grr... It seems like theres no middle ground. A company either has a zillion versions of the same 2 or 3 basses, with differences in color, hardware, material/const. (like Fender, ESP, Schecter). Or they have 2 or 3 basses in 1 style (like Gibson or Gretsch). You'd think a company that already has several options/design to build distinct basses, would. *sigh* I guess thats just the individual in me speaking up. I mean, who wants to be different. Of course, only people that can afford custom basses want to be different.... how silly of me.....  :P

That being said... I do really like the Guitar of the 'Whatever' idea. It does give, at least guitar players, the option of getting an affordable semi-custom guitar at a more affordable price. Who knows... out of 12 we might get one bass. Which will probably be a bass they used to offer... in a finish they used to offer....  :P

Gibson Basses / T-Bird Studio Strings
« on: February 06, 2008, 12:24:52 PM »
Hey guys, gals and strange green creatures from the vicinity of Betelgeuse. Just wanted to throw a little love out to ye olde Gibson Forum and ask a question.

Having recently switched from a short-scale to the Thunderbird Studio, I haven't yet had to get strings for it yet. So I thought I'd pose the question of what strings you are using for your Thunderbird (or Thunderbird Studio)? I just restrung it recently with a set of Gibson roundwounds that I found in a bargain bin at a local music store (can't remember the gauge off-hand, I'll try to update that later). But I doubt that I'll be able to find those again. So whats your Thunderbird string poison?
