RIP Amy
« on: July 23, 2011, 10:01:16 AM »
God knows she had no peace here on earth with her addicitons and personal demons.  Sad that she couldn't find a way to overcome her addictions.

Not really an unexpected death.

Another one that didn't make it past 27...

I figured this news was coming soon - and I doubt the cause of death will be a surprise to anyone.  Her glide path (more of a fall) has been visible to anyone.

Out of the blue and into the black, a Vietnam war era boony rat phrase originally meant to describe jumping into VC tunnels. Incorporated into 1979’s Rust Never Sleeps album by Neil Young in the song My My Hey Hey. Later lyrics in the song, better to burn out than to fade away*, were left in Kurt Cobain’s suicide note and associated with situations including death.

RIP Amy.

*I think Neil is wrong.

Yeah, definately not a shock, yet definately a shame

My wife lost her youngest sister to drink, and her eldest son followed her barely a year later...

Some people are just born with addictive tendencies and the people around them rarely help, or even know they are doing it...

better to burn out than to fade away*
*I think Neil Jeff Blackburn is wrong.

CW... one of those rare times when NY borrowed something during a time he worked with a band called The Ducks... and yes, I agree, but I think these Neal Peart words work better...

Some are born to move the world
To live their fantasies
But most of us just dream about
The things we'd like to be
Sadder still to watch it die
Than never to have known it
For you, the blind who once could see
The bell tolls for thee...

RIP Amy
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

That's where that phrase came from? Never knew that; thanks for bring it up.

It's really sad Amy couldn't control herself but like BUFF said, some people just have addictive tendencies and struggle with all sorts of things their entire lives. She had a great voice and it's a shame she won't be around to record more.

RIP, Amy.

Regardless of anything else that she could or couldn't have controlled, I'm pretty sure she didn't want to die.

Even Tony Bennett said she had a lot of talent.  It makes you wonder about how close extreme artistic talent is to being just a little nuts or having an addictive personality.

Possibly fortunately, I am not gifted with extreme artistic talent.

OTOH, that takes away one excuse.....

I read yesterday that she was diagnosed as bipolar and that she refused to take her meds - probably was one the major underlying problems with her addictions.  I believe Pilgim is correct - extremely gifted artistic types tend to be predisposed to mental issues - Mozart anyone?  I guess I'm just plain old garden variety nuts as the gifted thing never entered the picture with me....

She certainly did ask for it again and again. You can only juimp off a steam train charging to hit a brick wall that many times.

A waste, but a wilful one. Only the weak die young.
