New Darkstars..
« on: June 04, 2013, 02:33:45 PM »
Peter Boer (a member her, but not that much around) just got the new Curtis Noval 'Darkstar' in.

He wrote:

"I think Curtis? found the magic sauce for the BiSonics.

Compared with the Darkstar:
* less output;
* more ballsy tone;
* less harsh;
* more controlable dynamics;
* more balanced tone through all frequencies;

Pro's for the Darkstar:
* more "bite" especially in the mids
* perhaps more own character

But: I sure think the Curtis Novak BiSonic sounds like a BiSonic should be, and the Darkstar has clearly its own distinctive voice.

I think I'll need BiSonic'd bass and a Darkstar'd bass. "

And I believe Curtis can customize them a bit, output-wise.

They look great on CN's site.

Sure glad I bought Gary's DS last year which I finally installed an hour ago.  Sounds smooth and even across the entire sound spectrum and turns out it was a bargain at $200.

Peter Boer has his own bass brand now and I guess he will be here soon to show us some stuff.

I think I gave you a better deal than that!

You're right, I think it was $160.  Oops!   I'm planning a bass around it.

Interesting that Novak says "Out of respect to Fred, I held off for several years to make sure the Darkstar was not coming back before moving in and investing the time and money for which this project required a lot of both." I guess that's as close as can be to definite.

Peter Boer has his own bass brand now and I guess he will be here soon to show us some stuff.

I'll be looking forward to it.

I've got a '64 EB0 with a Novak BiSonic, which I'm digging pretty well.  Anybody in the neighborhood is welcome to check it out, but I don't have a recording set up.  I'm happy with it, of course its the EB-BS, not the DS-BS...
