Gibson Basses / Need a Nickel T Bird pickup-Chandler ok
« on: August 24, 2008, 02:26:01 PM »
I don't know if this is the right spot so forgive me but I figured the t bird nuts like me would understand or may be able to help. I have a brand new old stock Chrome Thunderbird cover Not a repro, but a real chrome one (I got from DC10Bass-Curt), sent it to Seymour Duncan and had MJ build new guts. But...I have it in a 1964 T bird reverse. I need a nickel one, even if someone has a Chandler I would love to work out a deal. It sounds fantastic!! But I need nickel, not chrome-no black!!!!! Joe

My next project (as if I need another one) is my boss at my new job wants to CNC a body from the blueprint. I want to get a nice piece of white Limba/Korina and make another 8 string Non Reverse, possibly using those grabber blanks on ebay.

Okeedokee. Email me at jswoquinn@sbcglobal.net. Let me see how much they cost to print, shipping tube, mail. I will only charge cost. This is on the condition that this blueprint stays in the family. I'm super busy so it may take a few days or a week. But this is a NICE blueprint. You probably won't find another nice one. I will get my ass chewed out by my ex guitar repair dude, Steve Dvorak, even if he isn't repairing guitars anymore. But I don't have a decent headstock tracing. Thanks for the measurement, Scott!!! Your bird looks amazing. Can't wait to see that finished!! I am having Gene route, fill and reroute only one pickup (since pickups are so damn impossible to find) and do it inverness green. I'll have to post pics of the 64 T Bird bass that Gene fixed. Bill, do you have any Chrome tailpieces??? Joe

Thanks Scott!!! I really appreciate that! I want to email Gene the dimensions for the new headstock. I gave him a tracing of the headstock and a highly detailed blue print of the Non-Rev body. I just brought the bass to Gene Liberty today. $850.00 smackers to make it right. Then...INVERNESS GREEN!!!!!!!!! I still remember when you sent me those acorn nuts for my old Non Reverse a few years ago. Thanks man!!

Thanks for the tips and info! I'm going tomorrow after work to get an estimate for the repair. I just need to know the thickness of the headstock! Thanks!

Well..it is broken...er..uh..Well...I decided to go and once again Hire Gene Liberty to make a scarf joint headstock and fill in an reroute the body. I can paint it myself at work. I am thinking Inverness Green but finding Dupont Acrylic Lacquer is going to be tough. I have a gallon of white and axcess to a quart of Pelham blue, possibly a quart of Heather Poly. White is out. I'm doing another bird white. "We can rebuild him...We have the technology". I love The Six Million Dollar Man!! 8)

I don't know what the hell happened. There was an EMG select p bass pickup in there. Poor bass. Just remove the truss rod, scarf the headstock, replace the truss rod and fingerboard and fill the cavity and reroute. The rest is easy!!!

Thought that would get someone's attention. As for the toe, I'm so sorry, I haven't had a Pedicure in ...well....hmm...gosh darn it! I don't think I ever had one!!! Back to the bass. LONG story, but I can't fix it. No tools, no time. It CAN be salvaged!!! Wish Gibson would get their act together and build the 2 60's reverse and non reverse birds the correct way-chrome-nickel-pickups and bridges-let's not forget the big headstock!!!! 8)
