4002 Mapleglo with some birdseye... and a story about which I have doubts. It was allegedly "originally given by Geddy Lee to his keyboard tech and is an EXACT replica of Lee's 4002 bass. As such it has heavier frets and a non-standard bridge which were done at the time of purchase by Rickenbacker in Santa Monica."The bridge is the kind that you sometimes find on Rics from the UK, probably by a UK maker. No way this was done at RIC (which isn't located in Santa Monica...) and certainly not Geddy's choice of bridge. The bad news are the drilling through the body and the ferrules. I guess it can be restored, but at a cost. Still a nice rare bass. As always, no affiliation.
Found reference to it at the Rickenbacker Resource Forum, including a post by the author of the story...
At that price I'm not surprised. It's rare but the market says it's not $4K rare.
A 21-fretter is much rarer than a 4005.
I'm surprised he didn't go ahead and put a toaster on there.
