Just curious
and uh, for the sake of conversation-

Would it, err... they... respond to pitch/dynamics?

Depends on what room of the house I'm in
or what computer I am using at the time.

Got 'em stashed everywhere.

The half scale is in the... um, library.

The Outpost Cafe / Re: My 4th of July will outrock yours...
« on: July 06, 2009, 04:22:04 PM »
I had an early 4th of July gig with The Wendell Ing Band
at the end of a parade here
and I took my son Nick along to help me roadie.

It was a multi-band bill
and our set got cut short after only four tunes due to time/weather
which kinda sucked
(especially after having to be there at 8:30 AM to set up)
but the good news was,
we took the party back to Wendell's house only a few blocks away
where he keeps a slightly out of tune upright piano on his front porch.

Quite a few musicians were there
so everyone set up
and we had a real casual, instrument/microphone swapping jam for the rest of the day.

The part that really rocked though?

I got to watch Nick play a few tunes
(including Blues Traveler's "Runaround" oddly enough)
using my main bass for his first real sit in
with some of the finest local musicians I know
and he not only held his own
but was actually pretty good!

I was proud as could be
and it was a real "lump in the throat" moment for me
to watch him play my Steinberger with these guys.

I just thought I'd share....

Adding to this list:

Depending on the audience,
"Nothin' But a Good Time" and "Wild Thing"
have both been proven feel good, third set, bar room crowd pleasers.

Although not a major influence on my playing style,
I have always loved the way he navigates the upper register on "You're My Best Friend".
Somehow without losing the support role.

Tastey.

Yeah,
unfortunately from 'Engineer Speak' this all too often translates as-
"Give me what I was taught to EQ for so I can use my pre-sets"
and as a result you'll sound just like everyone else in the end mix.

There is something to be said for originality in tone
and very few bass players can be recognized by theirs.

Maybe for exactly this reason?

Wow!

Having been to many of the same sights when I lived in Europe
I can say that she not only has amazing powers of observation
but a gift for words.

Putting my finger in the bullet holes of the Reichstag left quite an impression on me...

Oh man!
This Korean band gives me flashbacks to my days as part of The Suzi Kim Band in Waikiki!!!
She'd apparently had a minor hit back home in Korea.

We played in a Korean bar,
our draw was all Koreans,
her whole stage rap was in Korean
and even our charts where in Korean characters
but had been numbered in the upper corner.

So she'd be talkin' away to the audience
and all of a sudden would yell something that sounded like,
"Ah Mah Do Yo!!!"
(to which the audience would respond with great applause)
then she'd turn around to the band holding up four fingers in front of her
saying to us- "Numbah foah".

I recall that I had a post it note on my music stand that said,
"$100"
to answer my constant question to myself of,
"What am I doing here?"
 :P

As far as I know,
we may have played this song.
I wish my drummer were as good as this guy though.
 ;D
